Anyone reading this series? I've seen a few at the local Borders and while I enjoy it (and like the magazine format) I'm not too thrilled with the interpretation of Mr. Lodge as an evil businessman, which he really never came across that way before.

And they need to get a better artist, one who can draw pretty girls. Goldberg doesn't cut it in my book.

Archie's entire lineup is going day and date digital at a $1 discount.

I'm enjoying this mag very much.
Elseworld's Archie.
Agree about Goldberg, though I understand he is one of the ancient masters of the genre;
lately he draws all his females with puffy cheeks.

I know they're drawings but in the past, the girls were drawn real cute, not anymore.

And I don't like what they've done to Mr. Lodge.

I can live with the two Mr. Lodges (one much worse than the other) because it's "elseworlds".
Somebody has to be the bad guy.
And whodathunk you'd ever see Ambrose ever again?
And "Duke". Ha! Cool.
I'm having fun seeing what old near-dormant memory-brain-cells of mine they manage to tickle.

It seems like a bad cliche.

Don't know his name offhand, but my favourite Archie artist was the one in the '60s who did the "cute" versions of the characters that were sort of thin and expressive rather than puffy ... I know that description isn't helpful. :) He was distinctly different from the other artists, though. Do you have any idea who I'm talking about? He drew a lot of their house ads back then too.

The only name I know is Dan Decarlo.
But that's like saying the only name I know
is Carl Barks, or Stan Lee.
Kind of a "Name = Company" thing.
No help. I'm sure.

I undersatnd.
He's rich, he's white, he's (probably ) Republican, he MUST be evil incarnate.
I decided to draw my personal line right before that became a factor, so I can live with the cliche.
YMMV.

Found him! It was the late (and I think quite great) Harry Lucey:

I love DeCarlo's art and yes, Lucey's too.

And outside of the cliche, I am enjoying both the stories AND the magazine format.

I've said this a hundred times, someone needs to come up with a live action Archie series, with real look-a-likes. It would be Saved by the Bell, but a million times better. Maybe for ABC family or Nick. Cast really cute young actresses to play B & V, ones that teen boys would love, and a cute FUNNY redhead for Archie.

And for me, I used to love Midge. Even though they were all drawn the same, something about her appealed to me younger self. Maybe it was the scamp in her, flirting with Reggie behind Moose's back. Who knows :)

I never read Archie, but I am taken by the way the artists
drew Betty and Veronica in the 40s and 50s.

Like that work by Lucey, too.

They're strangely alluring to me (the comics). Very simplistic stories and corny at first glance but something about them draws me in once in a while.

I've bought every issue of the new mag and will continue to do so,
and lately I'm buying a digest a week at the supermarket checkout.
My LCS and DC have lost that little bit of market share that 50% of my purchases represent.

I want to see Selena Gomez as Veronica. Not sure about Betty yet.
That'll be a harder pick.
