The following is a direct quote from the attorney of a "man" who was sentenced for 20 years for pimping a 17 year old.

I'm not at all agreeing with the attorney that this is justification for his crime, it isn't. However, the statement is accurate.

And rock and roll just leads to drugs, Riiight.

Rap is a music form, no different than any other. Maybe Gangsta rap fits what you say, but really that's no worse than the metal I listened to growing up.

While I will grant that it is legitimate poetry, I do not agree that most rap is music.

When they invented the term rap they missed the letter 'c' at the start of the name.

I much perfer music over vocals - in rap there is not much music - I guess it is OK but just not for me.

i teach in a very white dominant high school, and i could walk down the hall and pick out which boys listen to rap...and i know i'll be darn close to 100%.

the scary thing is that a lot of middle and upper middle class white teenage girls listen to it. and that really bothers me...a lot.

It's funny to me to see people saying the same thing about the music of today, that their folks were probably saying about their music.

Darn right! They should be looking to more positive pop culture role models, like say, repeat drunk driver and convicted felon David Crosby...

And let's not forget long-term cocaine addict Herr Bowie... why can't the kids today be more like him? Perhaps Britain could still "benefit from a fascist leader."

And why can't these rappers set their narcissistic, pottymouthed and misogynistic lyrics about drugs and violence to an actual melody and add lots of musical instruments?

This. rap has a beat and you can sing along and dance to it. Ergo it's music.

Some of it is crap, just like almost every genre of music.

A direct response to your post, same as my reference to David Bowie was a direct response to Geff's post. In both cases, a personal reference to illustrate a broader point.

of course, how could be so stupid, crosby always writes and sings about murder, rape, wife/girlfriend beating, gangs, flagrant use of the words fuck and bitch, and uses tape loops in place of instruments.
