I want to buy a bunch of trades and so many are out of print and no longer available..mainly from Marvel.

New Xmen volume 1 by Morrison (with the annual) - out of print.
The 3 Wolverine trades by Greg Rucka - out of print.
The 5 New X-men trades by Kyle and Yost - out of print.

these are a-list creators on the X-men franchise...WHAT THE HELL? The purpose of trades was to keep stuff like this in print so it can sell perenially dammit..! DC is slower at releasing trades but better at keeping them in print.

Really pissed about this.

I know they reprinted the early Morrison NEW X-MEN quite recently. You should be able to get them, John.

I've had the same trouble trying to find some of the recent comics digests for the library. Availability seems to be a little spotty.

I've had similar problems with Busiek/Perez Avengers and the hardcover Runaways.

And I really want a good Dreadstar collection.

I think they just keep printing these things until the demand dies away. I imagine that after the first several waves of trades, they had pretty much tapped out most of the audience willing to buy those puppies.

So much X-Men, not as much fans anymore, y'know?

It's hard for me to believe I can't find a good reading copy in print of American Flagg.

And . . . Volume 1 is out of print.

Oh well. Shouldn't be too hard to find used or in stock somewhere if it was printed just last year.

Glad I could be of service! They spent a whole lot of time on the restoration, so it should be aces.

The "definitive collection" hardcover was still in stock -- just ordered it. Looks like from looking at the Wikipedia page that the project was troubled for a long time, on and off. So this wasn't really a case of just "out of print." It was mired in rights difficulty.

I kinda disagree on this - some stories yes I understand - but there is a lot of perenial stuff in there. I mean the X-men franchise is a big one and how many stories still sell decades after they have been reprinted (Dark Phoenix, Wolverine mini, etc).

I met Chaykin around 2005 at a con and we chatted about how it was ALMOST ready.

I finally was able to buy it and get it signed for Seattle's Emerald City Con, 2009.

I just stopped paying attention, I guess. But I fixed that today. On its way.

Have you read any of it before or is this the first run?

Either way - GREAT stuff!

Never read it. Became fascinated with it when I read the essay Michael Chabon wrote about it.

It's funny that Morrison's first X-Men is OOP, yet I can never sell my hardcover of it on eBay.

I've never been able to find anyone interested in the omnibus either.

That is very nice of you - thank you!

But I mostly buy trades now - and I am picky - I do not want the Omnibus or HC because I only want the story in the first trade - my own little neurosis :)

It's a dense read - and I mean that in a good way. No reading the issue in a 5 minute go here.

Well, that might explain why the publishers decided it wasn't worth their while to keep it in print.
