I am in disbelief these are finally happening! This is awesome. One wonders what could be on the Seventh Star 2nd disc. Live tracks? There were radio shows from London and Dallas. The infamous Jeff Fenholt demos? I'd be shocked, but who knows? As for Eternal Idol (a fantastic album), it's exactly what I'd hoped for. The album remastered with the 2 b-sides and the 2nd disc would be the demo of the album that Ray Gillen sang sans the instrumental track from the album. Holy crap! One question remains-where is Born Again? This is the album Iommi said he himself was involved in. Perhaps it hasn't been announced yet or it will be out later on. I sure hope so, but these 2 upcoming remasters are something I've been checking on for a while now-any Sabbath diehard should rejoice!

I've never bought Eternal Idol, so I may take the plunge this time. I have read elsewhere that it's a pretty good album.

'tis funny...Eternal Idol got very good reviews for the most part when it came out in late 1987 but it sold poorly. Now it's actually regarded quite well. Hearing the ray GIllan version will be such a treat-I haven't heard it since the days of Napster and the quality was good even then-remastered and cleaned up it should sound pretty nice. Martin came in and replecated everything-even the melody lines after Gillan was sacked because Gillan couldn't write lyrics. Bassist Bob Daisley and keyboardist Geoff Nicholls did. Of course, the irony is that Daisley wrote most of Ozzy's lyrics too!

Will there be release dates for the US? This is truly great stuff.
There is a 11/2 release date on Amazon, but only as imports.

Paranoid Man, did I nail these in my Sabbath thread! This will include the single mix of "No Stranger To Love" (also used in the MTV video) as well as another version on Disc One. Disc 2 seems to be a live disc as I figured-not a complete show as I saw the tour in Philly, but should be great anyway. I hope to God it's with Ray Gillan and not the coked-up debacle that Glenn Hughes was on the tour before he was fired.

Considering it was Glenn Hughes on the album, it would be him on the extra disc....wouldn't that make sense?

Hughes butchered the Sabbath classics, his voice cracked and went in and out and he was fired after just 5 or 6 shows. No way in hell Iommi would do that to his friend. Also, there are only boots of those shows and they're frightening. My guess-this is from the FM broadcast in London around June 1986 and that was an excellent show-I have the whole thing, but to have it remastered (even if edited) will be great.

Hughes had a severe cocaine problem at the time(which he later overcame), which affected his voice. At a few of his shows with Black Sabbath, Hughes(who was being employed only as a singer, not as a bassist) merely moved his lips, while a keyboardist/sideman did the actual singing. The drug problem also cost Hughes a gig with Irish bluesman Gary Moore. Thankfully, Hughes has been drug-free, back in good voice and productive(with both heavy metal, and his first love, funk music) for many years.

I had the misfortune of catching one of the Glenn Hughes shows at the Meadowlands Brenden Byrne Arena back in 1986. A guy I knew from my old neighborhood in the Bronx came by my apartment and asked if I wanted to go because he needed a ride out to NJ and the person he was supposed to go with had car trouble. At first I said I wasn't interested in seeing Sabbath without Dio. I had seen the Black and Blue tour at The Garden back in 1980 and loved Mob Rules and Heaven and Hell but completely lost interest in the band after Dio left. This guy was persistent though, and eventually I relented and went only because W.A.S.P. and Anthrax were opening the show. I remember being intrigued by the fact that Hughes was now the lead singer simply because I was a fan of his work with Deep Purple. Well it turned out to be one of the worst performances I have ever witnessed. The guy could barely sing. He mangled a few songs like a bullfrog and then left the stage. Iommi soloed for what seemed like hours and then Hughes came back to try singing War Pigs. By now the audience was booing louder than the music. Imagine: Hughes vocal- "Generals gathered in their masses...." Audience- "F%#K YOU!!!" Hughes vocal- "Just like Witches at Black Masses" Audience- "YOU SUCK!!!". Man was it ugly!! I don't think he even finished the song. I remember the set was cut short and thousands of angry and drunk Metalheads trashing the place on the way out. I will never forget it.

Thankfully, Hughes has been drug-free, back in good voice and productive(with both heavy metal, and his first love, funk music) for many years. It wasn't just coke-it was also Mars bars and other chocolates believe it or not. Also, the coke wasn't the main thing-he got punched by the band's tour manager so bad in the face right before the tour started that blood dripped into his throat and fucked up his voice even worse. Also, Hughes was never to play bass and in fact was never to be in Sabbath-he was hired to sing on Iommi's solo album which was also to include Dio and Halford but Hughes did so well, he sang on the whole thing which ended up akwardly as a Sabbath album. That Nicholls thing is not enitrely true at all. Geoff (who was a full band member not a sideman) sang in and out when Hughes would drop out vocally. This only occurred at one or maybe two shows. Hughes was fired only after Ray Gillan got the job. Hughes showed up at a rehearsal which in itself was amazing and saw Gillan singing. He figured out that he was history but was never really told anything. What's amazing is that Seventh Star is a really good album!

When it came to Sabbath, I enjoyed all the non-Ozzy albums the most.

I enjoyed Ozzy as a solo artist more than I did with his time in Sabbath.

I am in on these , I don't think of these as Sabbath albums just beacause there was too many line up chages involved with these and it was just Iommi , but they are 2 excellent hard rock albums . Now we need DE's of Born Again and the IRS albums .

I can confirm the 1986 show on Disc 2 of Seventh Star is indeed the Sabbath gig from London in June 1986.

This repeats what I've already said, but I'm so eager to get these why not read more???
Black-Sabbath.com is reporting that deluxe edition versions of the band's mid-'80s albums, Seventh Star and Eternal Idol, will be available in the U.K. on October 25. Released in 1986, Seventh Star featured former Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes on vocals, while 1987's Eternal Idol featured Tony Martin in that role. In point of fact, however, the story behind the making of the two albums is not so simple.
Only a few dates into Sabbath's 1986 Seventh Star tour, Hughes was let go, and singer Ray Gillen stepped in as his replacement. Gillen stayed on to work on the Eternal Idol album, but as recording neared completion, he left to form a new band, Badlands. Tony Martin was the brought in to re-record all the lead vocals, and Eternal Idol was released in that form. A bootleg disc, featuring the original Gillen vocals, has been traded in Sabbath circles for years.
What makes the deluxe sets especially enticing is that guitarist Tony Iommi has given permission for the Gillen recordings to be released. The Eternal Idol set will therefore include, as disc two, the entire version of the album that featured Gillen on vocals. Similarly, disc two of the Seventh Star set will consist of a live concert, recorded on June 2, 1986, that featured Gillen as singer.
Thus far, no date has been set for a U.S. release.
