Don't know about the CD portion, but it will be updated from the 1980 release. This is a classic compilation-it went to #1 in the UK and Platinum in the States even though the band had been disbanded for 4 years at that point! I'm curious what they will add to the CD.

Deepest Purple was my introduction to Deep Purple. Great compilation. An LP that was nearly an hour long!

My decision on this one will be 100% based on price, as i would only be buying for the dvd (& I probably already have some of the dvd content).

I THINK I have their entire catalog up to Come Taste The Band & then the reunion releases, ( I have a few of the post reunion cd's also but several are pretty weak & I didn't bother with them) & some of the live stuff, but I actually do have quite a bit of the live releases including 2 UK boxes & the main USA box.

I've added pre-order links to the first post. Amazon USA, oddly, is currently offering the imported version at a much better price ($32.98) than it's going for domestically at Amazon UK.

AmazonUK finally put this at the proper price of 11.99 lbs today. Linda, how do you do the British symbol again on the computer for lbs? I tried last time and it did not work-maybe I did it wrong.

Now that sounds like the correct price. (Yesterday it was crazy, nearly 39 pounds.)

Here, Pete: £11.99 — on North American keyboards you can generate the pound sign with Alt 163. If you have trouble with that, just save the symbol to a text file and paste it into your posts when needed.

I don't get why they seem to be using the edit of 'Speedking' the original has the full version :o  and also why is 'When A Blind Man' included I can think of much better songs, like 'Perfect Strangers', 'Never Before', 'Hallelujui' or 'Pictures of Home' ??

I don't get that either-"When A Blind Man Cries" was just a b-side they love for some reason. "Perfect Strangers" would not be includes as that came out after this comp, although an expanded version (not just 2 tracks) with post 1976 songs would've made sense.
As for "Speed King" being an edit-that may or not be right and it might just delete the intro.

The Deepest Purple edit of "Speed King" omitted the wall of sound guitar distortion from the intro, but retained the organ part.

What a great release this was. Got it for Christmas and just listened to it. Peter Mew did the mastering and everything sounds great. Excellent track selection, but I'd have ditched "When A Blind Man Cries" for an actual hit like "Never Before" or "Kentucky Woman". The DVD is awesome and it is fun as hell to watch Jon Lord's commentary in between each clip.
I can't even explain what the hell was going on with the "Speed King" clip. Totally bizarre, awful, non-sensical pretentious bullshit with idiots in their underwear laying on what look like piles of trash as the band plays!
I highly recommend this CD/DVD for any Purple fan.

I need this being a big Purple fan. Probably order this next month from AmazonUK for best price.
No one here locally has it (like usual).

Couldn't agree more with this review, especially the part about replacing "Blind Man" with "Never Before" or even "Kentucky Woman".
