A guy at my LCS believes that if Christopher Reeve had not had his equestrian accident, he would have eventually reprised his role as Superman in some way for a movie... whether it would have been a big screen adaption to Kingdom Come or some other story which depicts an older Superman. I happen to agree with him, especially given the recent Sylvester Stallone films where stories were told of an older Rocky Balboa and an older John Rambo. It's an interesting thought.

Rocky Balboa was surprisingly good. The Rambo reprise, on the other hand, eh.....
Maybe Reeve could have played the Earth-2 Superman.

Or something. I wonder if Reeve would have taken the job. As an actor, he may have been interested in playing an older, more weathered Superman.

They only makes comics like that for superheroes, not movies. The best you would have seen is a walk-on part in a new Superman film with a new actor in the lead role.

I'm betting we see either The Dark Knight Returns or Batman Beyond in the theaters someday, Linda.

Reeve as Dr. Virgil Swann on Smallville. The Batman franchises seem to shun the mention of any previous versions (with the exception of the animated series) but the Superman movies and series have a history of embracing their former stars. It wouldn't have surprised me to see Reeve return as Jor-el or as Pa Kent. I wouldn't have expected him to return in a Kingdom Come type of role.

No real roles for an older Superman in film but he might have played Jor El.

Oh, I think someone would have made a Kingdom Come inspired movie at some point if Reeve was available.

Darin wrote: Oh, I think someone would have made a Kingdom Come inspired movie at some point if Reeve was available. Unlikely. Most of the characters in that film haven't been launched in their own films yet and this will be a lot of the general public's first introduction to them -- I think DC would rather launch Green Lantern, Flash, Capt. Marvel in their own film in a more flattering light. Secondly, the budget would be off the chain for this film. Kingdom Come is great, but it's clearly designed for people who already know these characters.
