DELANEY AND BONNIE EXTEND TOUR

Rhino Handmade Reissues Live Classic On Tour With Eric Clapton As A
Four-Disc Set With More Than Three Hours Of Unreleased Performances

Pre-Order From Rhino.com On June 15, Out On July 20

LOS ANGELES – Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett assembled an all-star group of “friends” in 1969 for a weeklong tour of England, a legendary excursion that would produce On Tour With Eric Clapton, one of rock’s most powerful and enduring live albums. Clocking in at a mere 40 minutes, the original left fans wanting more for decades. Rhino Handmade delivers with a four-disc deluxe reissue expanded with more than three hours of unreleased roof-raising, hickory-smoked rock ’n’ soul.

The set, which comes packaged in a mock road case, contains Delaney & Bonnie & Friends’ complete performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall, plus a composite of the next night’s performances at Colston Hall in Bristol, and both the early and late shows from the tour’s final stop at Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Set for release on July 20, ON TOUR WITH ERIC CLAPTON – DELUXE EDITION will be available for pre-order on June 15 exclusively at http://www.rhino.com for a suggested list price of $79.98.

Along with the Bramletts, the touring band showcased on these discs includes guitarists Eric Clapton and Dave Mason, bassist Carl Radle, drummer Jim Gordon, organist Bobby Whitlock, Jim Price and Bobby Keys on horns, percussionist Tex Johnson, and singer Rita Coolidge. The Croydon shows also features Mysterioso (aka George Harrison), who can be heard playing bottleneck slide, a technique Harrison reportedly learned from Delaney during this tour.

Along with unreleased versions of all the songs from the original, this reissue also contains several songs not featured on the 1970 album, including “I Don’t Know Why” a track the Bramletts penned with Clapton; “My Baby Specializes” and “Everybody Loves A Winner” from the Bramlett’s debut Home; “Get Ourselves Together” from the couple’s 1969 follow-up Accept No Substitute; the traditional “Will The Circle Be Unbroken”; a cover of Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme Some Lovin’”; and the instrumental “Pigmy.”

Glyn Johns, who recorded the Colston Hall gig, revisits his experience in the collection’s detailed liner notes: “There is no question that they had an immense effect on popular music, mostly by influencing some of the most successful musicians of the day. The outstanding memory for me is the sound they created. Being an engineer, it had a huge influence on me—this, coupled with the complexity of the rhythm section and the ease with which they performed. Us Brits had never heard anything so fluid.”

Rhino Handmade is actually accepting orders now (as opposed to waiting till tomorrow) and the set qualifies for free shipping.

It's not financially viable for me to have this posted to Australia.

A lot of money for 4 CDs.

It's looks like a nice set but it's a little too much D&B for my blood. I would have preferred a 2CD Deluxe Edition for less $$ and smaller packaging.

I would have been interested in a 1 or 2 disc set focusing on Mason & Clapton's contributions.

Thanks for the info! I just ordered mine. I read about a deluxe edition of this a long time ago and, oddly enough, thought of it this morning. Strange to see this news later in the evening of the same day! One thing I wish they'd do is include the original classic LP lineup on one of the discs. Oh well, I guess I can spend an extra eight or nine bucks to have that version on the non-deluxe CD. I look forward to hearing George Harrison on this!

Rhino Handmade is really f@#king up these days. First was The Stooges Box disc mix-up with the discs reversed, then came the disappearing "J. Geils Band- Full House Live" release with no explanation to those who pre-ordered it, now this:

Posted in the comments section on this release Wednesday, June 16, 2010 - 5:17 AM
Hi - the liner notes on this website aren`t correct. I have researched the complete tour years ago for a German fanzine article after purchasing a set of negatives of Copenhagen. Most informations (dates & venues) of the tour are incorrect in all sources including Mark Lewisohn.
George Harrison played on all shows in England and Scandinavia AFTER the Albert Hall show (the first stop of the tour). So he is on ALL other tracks on that box set.
He is NOT playing slide guitar on the English leg of the tour because they had Dave Mason to do so. He only did that in Scandinavia where Mason did not attend.
If the liner note writer will get the correct informations - get in touch with me!

NEW DESCRIPTION from Rhino Handmade website:

Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett assembled an all-star group of “friends” in 1969 for a weeklong tour of England, a legendary excursion that would produce On Tour With Eric Clapton, one of rock’s most powerful and enduring live albums. Clocking in at a mere 40 minutes, the original left fans wanting more for decades. THE WAIT IS OVER - Rhino Handmade delivers with a four-disc deluxe reissue expanded with more than three hours of unreleased roof-raising, hickory-smoked rock ’n’ soul.

Along with the Bramletts, the touring band showcased on these discs includes guitarists Eric Clapton and Dave Mason, bassist Carl Radle, drummer Jim Gordon, organist Bobby Whitlock, Jim Price and Bobby Keys on horns, percussionist Tex Johnson, and singer Rita Coolidge.

Rhino Handjob (as I prefer to call them) has changed the description of this release, omitting the George Harrison playing slide guitar on it. You would think that they would notify those who pre-ordered it to ask if they would still want it.

Seriously, people would be buying a four-disc box set because George Harrison was playing guitar on it? I'm pretty sure if anyone ordered it for that reason and contacted Rhino Handmade, they would cancel your order.

Is George Harrison on the set? Are these performances exclusive to the set?

If so - I am in...
