Is Bowie gonna tour again sometime? He's been quiet since his heart attack. Hope he's okay. I realized that I haven't seen him live and I should. Hopefully he'll tour again at some point.

A brief update on long-absent David Bowie was buried at the bottom of a long New York Times profile on the rocker's supermodel wife Iman this weekend. "I'm not thinking of touring," he said. "I'm comfortable." The news is hardly a shock — Bowie has been on an unannounced hiatus for the last six years — but his quote to the Times confirms there will be no new Bowie shows in the near future. What's he been doing with his time? "He draws, paints and collects 20th-century British art," the Times piece says.
Earlier this decade, Bowie released two strong back-to-back albums (2002's Heathen and 2003's Reality) and went on a world tour that many fans considered to be his best in decades. It was cut short, however, when he suffered a heart attack in the summer of 2004. Over the next two years he made surprise appearances onstage with Arcade Fire, Alicia Keys and Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. In 2006, Bowie announced he was going to stage a full concert at the inaugural High Line Festival in New York, but a few months later he backed out. "Due to ongoing work on a new project, David Bowie has announced that it will not be possible for him to perform," a statement read. Four years later, there’s been no sign of that "new project."
Prior to this break, Bowie hadn't taken more than two-and-a-half years off between albums since he began recording in 1964. It's now been nearly seven years since he released a single new track. On her Twitter in May 2009, Iman did suggest he's working on something when asked by a follower if Bowie was recording new music. "He’s cooking up something I'm sure you will love" was her response. A May article published by the AARP noted that Bowie was also working on a new album, but a rep for Bowie denied it to Rolling Stone.

LONDON -- English rock star David Bowie has used the occasion of his 66th birthday to announce the release of his first new single in ten years.
The song, called "Where Are We Now?," will be followed in March by his 30th studio recording, "The Next Day."
Born David Robert Jones in Brixton on January 8, 1947, Bowie has had a glittering music career spanning more than five decades. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
Fellow musician David Byrne said of Bowie at the induction, "When David Bowie came along, well, rock and roll needed a shot in the arm and when I first saw him it was a shock, and yet it was very familiar. It was very necessary. It was something that was needed. It was essential. And like all rock and roll, it was tasteless, it was glamorous, it was perverse, it was fun, it was crass, it was sexy, it was confusing."
Has there ever been an artist this big who disappeared as thoroughly as Bowie did and came back with such little advance hype? I don't think I even heard a rumor that he was recording.

Well, now your prayers have been answered as Parlophone Records will release a new longer mix as a digital download on October 7th.
Sound and Vision 2013 is a beautifully haunting reimagining of the song, re-worked from the original stems by remixer Sonjay Prabhakar. By stripping away much of the original instrumentation to just leave Roy Young’s plaintive piano, Mary Hopkin’s backing vocal and the lead vocal, the song takes on a new reflective resonance.
Sound and Vision originally appeared on David Bowie’s 1977 Low album and was released as a single in the UK on 11th February of that year, reaching number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
Sound and Vision 2013 and the original Sound and Vision will both be available to digitally download from October 7th.
FOOTNOTE: Beware of a fake remix which was posted on YouTube in March. It was clumsily edited together from the original version into an unconvincing three minute one.
