I both buy and sell on amazon, selling is just a hobby and a way to make some additional income. What gets me is when I buy, I always read the seller's notes, especially to see if it is a barcode punch or has some other alteration. When I sell, I always list that it isn't a barcode punch, drillhole, cut-out, or promo, in addition to any other things that may be wrong with it. But I get people who for some reason don't read the seller's notes at all and then they complain via email that I misled them, blah blah blah until I have to quote them my seller's notes. Then they act like that is tantamount to reading the fine print in an ad. Just drives me crazy. I don't understand how you can NOT read the seller's notes when you order on amazon, it's right next to "add to cart."

If you spell something out in the seller's notes, and the buyer doesn't bother to read it, they've got no business complaining. It's hardly "fine print." These are probably the same lazy whiners who leave negative feedback when there's a crack in the jewel case.

I truly appreciate Amazon sellers who provide details about cut-out markings and club pressings. If I'm looking for an out-of-print CD, those are the sellers I consider first, even if their prices are higher.

I always read the seller's notes. Some times they are totally generic, but other times they can be quite helpful and item-specific. Anyone that does NOT read them has NO right to complain -- they are as plain as day on the item page!

I do read them, and they go towards whether or not I make the purchase. And I do call BS on sellers who don't include something in the description that should definitely be there, like the condition of the case, liners, disc or even the label, or country of pressing. If I receive an import from Argentina, China or Russia, for instance, and that's not listed in the notes, I will bitch the seller out.

I always read seller's notes as well-- how can you not? What gets me is when they don't leave ENOUGH details regarding condition.

I've been selling on Amazon for a couple of months now. As a buyer I appreciate detailed seller's notes, so that's what I've been trying to do with my own listings. I'm glad to see this is something that others appreciate as well. Nothing bugs me more than those dealers who use the same generic description for everything they sell.

I ALWAYS read the seller's notes. I'm a bit anal about my preference for brand new (as opposed to used) CDs. If the notes don't indicate that the CD is brand new and factory sealed, I will not buy it. As others have indicated, I too appreciate honesty, and will always give my business to sellers that have done right by me - even if I have to pay a few bucks more.

I'm like Jeff in that I refuse to buy anything from Amazon unless it says it's brand new, factory sealed, or in shrinkwrap, and so far I've only been burned twice. Once it was when I ordered the remastered version of Amy Grant's Behind the Eyes under the remastered heading on Amazon, but when I got it the original version came instead, and when I complained to the seller about it they said they've always only had the original version of it and they didn't know why I was expecting the remastered version from them. I tried to explain to them that their product was listed under the remastered link for the cd, but still they insisted it wasn't there. Anyway, I eventually sent it back to them and just ordered the remaster from Cduniverse instead. Lesson learned I suppose when it comes to remasters. Another time I ordered Hannah Montana's concert movie on DVD from a seller who seemed to have what I wanted, but instead of getting the version with the 3D slipcover on it I got the one in just a regular DVD case instead. Then when I tried to contact the seller about it they didn't respond to me back at all, so in the end I figured I would just keep it anyway without the slipcover and have enjoyed it multiple times since. Just now whenever I order a movie from Amazon I either just order it directly from them, or I make damn sure that if I know beforehand the movie's supposed to have a slipcover on it that it says it's included in the description for it.

I look at the seller's rating more than/before seller notes. I put more into detailed description for used CDs....unless it's something OOP that I really want and take what can get.

Fortunately, I haven't been burned by Amazon sellers yet......importcds gets most of my business.

My biggest gripe is that sellers often do not state whether a reissue comes in standard jewel case,digi-pak or slip case.It would save a lot of extra research.

If I see a rating below 98% I stay away. I still can't figure out how pieces of crap with ratings like 84% still sell on there. They always have the lowest prices and I'd rather give $10 more to someone with a good rating who is honest.
I sell on there a lot and I've done very well with a ton of OOP books. I've sold them for anywhere from $25-$125 each. so few people leave feedback though, it's frustrating.

This has become huge for me on ebay. Over the last year or so, ebay now hides the "seller's description" under the pre filled listings, & most people never even see it.

I have always been very good about noting any "flaws" (cutout, BMG Club, scratches, etc) but as of late I am now trying to squeeze the flaws into the TITLE Line (so people will see it), which as any marketing pro will tell you is insane.

THIS REALLY SUCKS.

Ven, I wish ebay agreed with your common sense statement. Sellers are getting no back up from ebay or Pay Pal on this issue. & now with ebay's new "top seller" program, if i get more then 3 feedbacks in any one of 4 categories that are lower then 3 stars in a 3 month period, I lose "Top seller" which means I lose decent search rankings, which means my sales go by by.

This won't work on Amazon, but the solution on ebay is to go back to having what I write appear before what ebay writes, which is often wrong anyways.....

Oh, & if a pay pal buyer files a "not as described" claim, even if something was clearly spelled out, per Pay Pal's policy the buyer ALWAYS wins. That has been made very clear to me from several different Pay Pal reps as being actual official policy.

I sold a Japanese bootleg of Lynyrd Skynyrd called One (More) From The Road. In my seller notes I state that this is a poor-quality audience recording, among other things, prefaced by, in boldface: NOTE--PLEASE READ CAREFULLY...then I proceed to describe the item. I email the guy who bought it, telling him I will ship as soon as he verifies that he read my seller's notes, which was literally a paragraph--and of course he didn't. I just don't get it. Every person on here who answered my question does. I guess we care about the music and all most buyers on amazon care about is the price? I can see where you might blow through a one-sentence description, but a PARAGRAPH? Also, while I'm venting, amazon needs to stop letting people create a separate listing for the exact same buyer so it can look like they have the only listing. This is most prevalent with LP's, where the exact same edition of the exact same LP is listed under 3, sometimes FIVE different listings. If the LP is Boston's 1979 "Don't Look Back", all listings should be under one heading, not 5 different ones for the same LP. What gets me is if you have 2 of the same product and list it twice, they tell you you've already listed it, so why can't they do the same when somebody tries to create a listing that already exists? It would consolidate their listings, shorten their pages and cause less confusion for the buyer.

I find that most people like us know to read the seller's description. It's the newbies that are the problem.........
