Seek info and ye shall find (eventually)!
I cannot wait to hear this, but like the other Cure remasters I'll just get the single disc. Glad they're allowing single dsic versions. I have ZERO desire to hear crappy solo demos. I'd like to hear the expanded Entreat but not at the cost of a 3CD set.
Can't wait for the rest of the issues coming-hopefully more studio albums from Wish on up.

Here's the scoop on the Disintegration remaster due next spring from Slicingupeyeballs.com:

The Cure will reissue its 1989 masterwork Disintegration in an expanded and remastered 3CD edition next spring, Robert Smith announced today, the first salvo in what appears to be a flood of new archival releases from the legendary band — including the first-ever DVD release of 1987’s long-out-of-print “In Orange” concert film.

Squelching concerns — noted on this site, and others — that the Cure’s reissue program was in trouble, Smith announced on the band’s Web site that the new edition of Disintegration will be released in a triple-disc expanded edition, as well as single-CD and double-vinyl formats, “worldwide in spring 2010 on Universal and Rhino.”

Like the previous Cure reissues, the album will feature a second disc with Smith’s home and studio demos for the album; the Disintegration rarities disc features 20 songs recorded in 1988 and 1989, including album cuts and b-sides, plus previously unreleased tracks “Noheart,” “Esten” and “Delirious Night” (Smith’s post lists his solo cover of Wendy Waldman’s “Pirate Ships” — originally recorded for Elektra Records’ Rubáiyát compilation — as previously unreleased, but he did offer it up as a download on the band’s Web site a few years ago). (See full tracklist below.)

The third disc, labled Entreat Plus, features an expanded, 12-track edition of that 1990 live album, fleshed out to include live versions of each song off Disintegration, assembled in order, from a concert at London’s Wembley Arena in 1989.

Smith explains that the single CD and double vinyl only will feature the remastered 12-track album (it’s worth noting that Disintegration originally was released on vinyl as a single record without so-called “bonus tracks” “Last Dance” and “Homesick”). The Cure frontman also writes that “it is likely a remastered version of the original eight-track Entreat live album will be made available online.”

But most tantalizing to fans is Smith’s sign-off: “There will be a lot more remastered Cure stuff in 2010… including Mixed Up 2…” (apparently a sequel to the 1990 remix album) as well as “The Cure @ The BBC box set… ‘In Orange’ and (1993 concert film) ‘Show’ on DVD… and…”

Disintegration is my favorite Cure album. This one got plenty of play especially on cassette in my car.

Now updated with official release date.

We know there’s been enormous interest in the forthcoming 3CD reissue of The Cure’s 1989 classic Disintegration — our report on the set’s tracklist remains this site’s most-viewed post ever — and now we can tell you when it’ll arrive: Feb. 16, according to the ever-vigilant Chain of Flowers fan site.

Like previous Cure reissues, the set will feature a remastered edition of the album on one disc, plus a second disc with 20 of Robert Smith’s home and studio demos recorded in 1988 and 1989, including album cuts and b-sides, plus previously unreleased tracks “Noheart,” “Esten” and “Delirious Night”

The third disc, labled Entreat Plus, features an expanded, 12-track edition of that 1990 live album, fleshed out to include live versions of each song off Disintegration, assembled in order, from a concert at London’s Wembley Arena in 1989.

Speaking of Mixed Up, has it ever been released in its entirety on CD? "Why Can't I Be You" was on the original cassette version but not the disc.

Speaking of Mixed Up, has it ever been released in its entirety on CD? "Why Can't I Be You" was on the original cassette version but not the disc.

No, because the total time would have exceeded 80 minutes.

Mixed Up was certainly a mixed bag. I enjoyed most of the extended mixes from earlier 12-inch singles, but I didn't like hardly any of the newly-redone mixes. The one exception I can recall liking was the new Closer Mix of "Close to Me", which brought out some cool dimensions to the song that were buried in the original.

Someday, Robert Smith needs to release a collection of all the 12-inch mixes that have never been on CD before

Am I correct in believing that the UK (Universal) release is currently less expensive than the US (Rhino) release?

Yes. More than $10 cheaper, even with shipping:

Looks like it's finally coming out for real.

From Anti-Music.com:

The Cure are going to issue a deluxe three disc reissue of their acclaimed "Disintegration" album on May 24th. Here is what the band had to say about the release on their website, including the tracklisting: Three-Disc Deluxe Edition Produced & Compiled by Robert Smith, Including a Remastered Version of the Original Album, plus Unreleased Songs, Demos, Out-takes and Live Performances.

The Cure's eighth studio album, released in 1989, is the dark tour de force Disintegration. Following on from 1987's outstanding Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me release, and spurred by the hits "Lullaby", "Fascination Street", "Lovesong" and "Pictures Of You", the album quickly became the group's most successful yet, with sales topping more than 3 million, as the band sold out stadiums and arenas around the world.

Polydor/Universal reissues this landmark album, remastering the original, adding a disc of unreleased out-takes and demos, plus a third disc that contains a live performance of the entire album recorded in 1989 over 3 nights at Wembley Arena, London, the European climax of the The Cure's global 'Prayer Tour'. This Deluxe Edition comes with a 20 page booklet containing previously unseen pictures and art, as well as lyrics and an in depth overview of the period by the band's founder Robert Smith.

Robert Smith compiled, produced, and supervised the mastering of this three-disc collection, which covers the evolution of Disintegration, from demos and rehearsals to studio and stage. The first disc contains newly remastered versions of the album's original 12 tracks.

Gathering 20 unreleased tracks, the second disc trawls through Smith's home recordings to find early instrumental demos of fan favourites "Pictures Of You", "Prayers For Rain" and "Fascination Street." The Cure can be heard rehearsing and arranging various instrumental versions, including "Homesick", "Closedown" and "The Same Deep Water As You", as well as playing studio out-takes of several other tracks, including "Plainsong". The disc also contains four unreleased songs: "Noheart", "Esten", "Delirious Night" and a cover of Judy Collins' "Pirate Ships", the latter a solo performance by Smith that was recorded for, but ultimately not included on, Rubáiyát, a 1990 album celebrating Elektra Records' 40th anniversary.

For the final disc, Smith remixes and expands Entreat, a live album recorded in 1989 at Wembley Arena. Entreat Plus combines the original's eight tracks, remixed with the four 'missing' songs to create a complete contemporary live version of Disintegration.

Comments Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai: "Disintegration by The Cure is one of the greatest records of all time. It has the feel that only a tiny amount of albums have, that it exists completely in its own universe, immune to context or fashion. I literally cannot imagine the band members in a room playing these songs for the first time, its as if they've always been there. From stunning opener "Plainsong" through to "Untitled", it is unrelentingly beautiful and achingly sad. Disintegration is a simply wonderful record."

The domestic pressing has been pushed back yet again, to June 8th. The UK pressing is still scheduled for a couple of weeks earlier (May 24th), and is inexplicably still less expensive than the American release even when you factor in shipping:

This finally came out this week, but is it only the 3 disc version? If so, they can kiss my ass. There was supposed to be a one disc version as well, like all the others.

i'm wanting this one for disc 3; the expanded 'entreat' album.
also ripped a stream of the album played live from a show i attended
at the dallas starplex. they didn't perform it as one piece but instead
mixed it to recreate the running order. makes for a cool souvenir though.
