As a huge basketball fan (Lakers), I can't help but notice that we have season-long threads for the NFL, MLB, hell, even the NHL and NOTHING on not only the NBA, but not one single mention of March Madness? What gives?

I know I'm in the minority, but though fun to play, watching basketball bores the heck out of me. I can't get by the fact that when a game comes down to crunch time it's a constant barrage of fouls, foul shots and timeouts. Takes a lot of the excitement out of it for me. I know you wrote "even the NHL", but for me NHL hockey is tremendously exciting - lots of end-to-end action, hitting and amazing athletics on ice. When a close hockey game comes to the final minutes it can be incredible to watch. Just my personal two cents. That said - it is surprising that there isn't a B-Ball thread - be it NBA or college hoops.

I missed the Kansas game but that's something else. #1 seed gets knocked off by unknown team......you gotta love March Madness.

it just doesn't interest me.

they need to raise the basket to 12 or 15 feet, move the 3-point line back about 10 feet, and allow zone defenses. the endless dunks and 3-pointers just make it boring, and as dano said, they play a whole game and it almost alwys comes down to the last 2 minutes, and in the NBA they play a whole season ans alomost every team makes the playoffs anyway.

i was angry that on thursday they pre-empted 'survivor' to show #1 seeds blowing out #16 seeds in prime time.

College basketball is a great sport, but I just don't have the sort of time to invest in following it (or any sport, really) to where I can really appreciate it. I don't watch a lot of TV to begin with...I definitely prefer the college game to the pro game.

I love basketball. Crazy day yesterday in the Big Dance.

Andrew Bynum out for the Lakers again -- I am starting to wonder whether he will ever make it through a season.

I love college basketball and the first weekend of the tournament is the greatest thing in sports for me. I would say that I love football the most(Pro and college).

I love baseball but I don't watch that much of it until the the All Star Game. Then the rest of the regular season and playoffs are great.

As for the NBA, I keep track of it and watch highlights but I really don't start watching games until the playoffs start.

Hard to get excited about the Knicks these days. The push will be on to sign LeBron James as a free agent.

Meanwhile, the Nets are challenging the record for the worst NBA sseason of all time. At 7-62, they need to win 3 games to pass the 76ers team from '72-'73, who finished 9-73.

I do enjoy watching the NBA fianls and the NCAA tournament.

And basketball was the only team sport I had any talent at all for when I was younger. Not that I was good enough for the school team or anything, but I loved to play.

Yep. I work with the Hawks and Thrashers on a reading program for kids (now in its sixth year) and I have never been to a Hawks game, but I attend 6 to 10 Thrashers games every year. Go to a couple of college football games a year, watch the Colts and Falcons every so often, and I absolutely live for Cardinals baseball. I have three Cardinals road trips planned this year and a subscription to MLB Extra Innings so I can watch them practically every night. But basketball? It pretty much rates a zero with me.

March Madness is about the only time I really pay much attention. Can't stand the NBA any longer.

Used to be into MM even more, but once I stopped helping my buddy run his basketball pool, I lost some interest. I fill out a few brackets so I can do poorly on ESPN, and we have a little family pool (except for my daughter) for dinner, and my wife and son have a side bet with different brackets for doing chores for a week or so.

Watching Robert Morris and Villanova was very frustrating - horrible officiating gave 'Nova the game. Some bad calls, but what really got me wasn't what they called as fouls as much as watching one or two of the refs (not sure if it was the same ref on both calls) make calls that they clearly couldn't see, and on one call, the ref who was blocked overruled a ref who was in position and could see what happened. That drives me nuts - I'm a soccer referee (can't believe I'm admitting that publicly!) and one of the first things we were told is you don't call what you don't see. If you can't see it, you don't know for sure what happened, so if you make the call, it's a guess. And that's what happened in that game.

I'm losing again this year (and Robert Morris didn't hurt me)...

Alan

Renny, zone defenses are allowed and employed in the NBA, just not as widely used as they are in college. And there are 30 teams in the NBA, 16 of which make the playoffs, same as the NHL. I do agree that the 3 point line needs to be moved back to 25 feet, it's becoming a normal jumpshot now.

DanO, I wasn't disparaging the NHL there, I'm a Kings fan, I said it that way because the TV ratings for the NHL are the worst of all of the major sports.

I USED to like BB before Seattle got PHUCKED by scumbag Clay Bennet, bigger scum bag David Stern & Oklahoma City.

Far as I'm concerned the NBA can go PHUCK themselves.

40 years of fan support & the bastards threw us in the sewer.

I didn't take it that way at all. You're right - the NHL gets miniscule ratings. I can't understand why -especially during the playoffs, which are so exciting and loaded with upsets.

March Madness is on !!!! Best time of year for college basketball fans (the various conference championship tournaments, the NCAA big dance, the NIT, etc.)

Anything can happen, and even the smallest team that no-one has ever heard of can make a run. Plus, it doesn't take several months to determine a champ, just three consecutive weekends. It doesnt get much better than that.

Yeah, hockey can definitely be exciting, I just finished watching the Kings beat the Avs in OT after choking the lead with 6 seconds left. Much like the NBA, the NHL really picks up for the playoffs.
