Came across this vintage clip on you tube and thought it might be fun to watch:

There's a Runaways biopic coming out this year.

Wasn't Dakota Fanning 9 or 10 last year? It seems like she went from cute kid actress to teenage actress like that.

Looks like she's definitely made the leap here. She's still only 16 or something though right? Egads.

Is The Runaways story that compelling? They weren't the first all-girl Rock band by a longshot and they really weren't very good or successful either. I can't imagine this film doing well. I think it comes out next week actually (not sure), but I haven't seen one commercial yet. I've always liked Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, but I've never understood the appeal of The Runaways. Maybe it's just me!

A sexualized Dakota Fanning may be hard to take. Not sure if I would be able to enjoy her performance since I would keep thinking of a small kid.
I also hear that Joan Jett made Kristen Stewart cry when she commented on her performance. "Thats not Joan Jett". These actresses aren't very good so this could be a mess.
Amazing that this movie is even being made since The Runaways were always a blip on the radar even back then. It seemed they had a moment and then it was gone. I still have that original lp.

The movie will probably be bigger than the band, even if it's not a box-office smash.

Frankly, I'm not comfortable with her being "sexualized", but if you watch a clip of the original Cherry Bomb performance by the real band, she nails it. It's opening today. The movie is getting average reviews (3 out of 5 stars) most places. Supposedly Fanning is good, Stewart isn't, and the plot is generic.
I'm still going to go see it tonight after work....it's at a theater 5 minutes away.
If I like a group or music subject matter, I go see the movie despite reviews.....though the last couple of times I did, Taking Woodstock and Pirate Radio, they were both lousy.

I see it's rated R so that eliminates most tweeners.

I pretty much liked it. The story was somewhat erratically paced, and the last 3rd of the movie was kind of a downer, but I enjoyed quite a bit of it. Probably a B/B- movie.
Michael Shannon, as Kim Fowley, was really good.
The movie was based on Cherie Currie's biography, and is based more on the relationship between her, Joan Jett, and Fowley. The rest are just there....the Lita Ford character (Lita wanted nothing much to do with the film) only was involved in the break up scene.
I liked The Runaways going into this...if you don't particularly like their music, as some people on this thread don't, you may not want to bother seeing it. I liked it better than Taking Woodstock or Pirate Radio, and probably will get the DVD whenever it comes out.

To me that's always a sign one liked a movie when they want the DVD. It will be interesting to see if this movie makes $$$.

The Runaways is tonight's pick for our Saturday Night at the Movies adventure. I tell my friends I'll go see pretty much any movie, but I have NO desire to see The Bounty Hunter, and Repo Men seems like the most unpleasant concept for a movie, ever.

There is a Runaways documentary from a couple years back that's pretty good, though if I remember right, only Sandy & Lita took part.

The worst thing about the documentary is Joan wouldn't even allow Runaways music to be used, so they only used cover songs The Runaways recorded. Still worth watching.
