Product Description
Lovecraft is actually the group H.P. Lovecraft, but after they first couple of albums they shortened their name to just Lovecraft. They also changed labels from Philips to Reprise. Valley Of The Moon is making its worldwide CD debut! It is a surprisingly good album mixing leftover psychedelica with good harmonies. 11 tracks. Wounded Bird. 2008.

1. Lady Come Softly
2. Hopefully We'll All Remain Together
3. Take Me By The Hand
4. Love Has Come To Me
5. Never Gonna Go Back
6. Brother I Wonder
7. Will I Know When My Time Comes
8. Two Step Tussle
9. The Dawn
10. We Can All Have It Together
11. Dear

Fine album. I first got turned onto these guys from the old Warner $1 per LP samplers. IF I remember right, I THINK this one is there best.

I don't buy much psych any more, but these guys are supposed to be really good.

For the record, it was the (original) band's first two LP's for Dunwich Records (with the full "H.P. Lovecraft" name and lineup) which were the somewhat groundbreaking psych band. By the time this (and the follow-up to it) were released it was just about a completely different band, with the principal writers of those first two LP's gone.
And yes, "Love Has Come To Me" was featured on the Warners/Reprise 3-LP sampler "Looney Tunes". It's a very nice song.... Not saying this may not be a decent LP (i've never heard the whole thing), just that it has no connection to the original psych-style group. This song is sort of a lightweight folk-rock tune, with a great melody and beautiful harmonizing. From what i've read, the rest of the LP is in a similar vein.

Rick:
Correct-this basically isn't even the same band, so tread carefully and realize that if you were thinking of getting this. I couldn't even get into the supposedly good material, let alone this abysmal folkie/hippie stuff.

I own the vinyl, & while I haven't played it in years, I do remember enjoying it.

I ordered the cd from Amazon 3rd party seller vinylsoundsbetter. I usually don't plug the competition, but this is (unintentionally) my 3rd order from them. On all 3, they had best price or very close, & perfect service on the 1st 2 orders.

I've only heard the samples of this, but it just isn't the same band. The sound like they've been neutered. The 2 Dunwich lps and the Fillmore West live cd show how good this band was. The Fillmore cd in particular is excellent, much more aggressive than the studio lps.

Got it today (2 day delivery is too cool!). It's good as i remember. I never heard the earlier albums. My memory is the song i discovered on the Warner sampler was "The Dawn" on a 1 disc sampler with a black & white cover which also turned me on to Pentangle MANY moons ago.

This seems to alternate between Bufallo Springfield style Folk rock & 60's San Francisco style funk rock.

Mastering is odd, quite a bit of distortion in the lead vocal on several tracks. Not sure why.
