The Genesis album The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway was re-issued in '08 with a new stereo mix. How does it sound? Can anyone recommend it?

On this forum, you might actually get a good, unbiased opinion. Many are just dismissing the remixes all together. I just got the Green box...as soon as I get around to it I'll give you my review.

My general feeling on most of the other remixes from the Blue and Red boxes are mixed. Some are improved, some should've been left alone...all seem pretty loud and occasionally piercing to me. It's been a mixed bag.

I've really enjoyed the 5.1 mix of the new Lamb from the green box. It is a new way to experience this classic album.

The stereo mix is also very nice. Yes, the new Genesis remasters were mastered too loud but the later albums like The Lamb are done with more discretion.

I love it, but what do I know?
I loved all of these Genesis remasters/remixes and didn't find them loud in the least. You want to hear them the old way, buy the old CDs.
The best ones from the 2007-08 remasters were the Gabriel-era remasters which sound excellent to me (I especially care for what they did with Trespass which never sounded better), and the Lamb was quite an experience, especially with the visual accompanyment. Well worth it.

I do like the new remasters in my car.

I put on the previous Definitive Editions of Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering last week and the new remasters smoke those when played in my car. The DE's are no-noised stinkers.

The remasters are too loud on my main system but I just turn down the volume knob and I can deal with them. Love the surround mixes on all of them.

In my car and from my work computer's crappy internal speaker is how I would most often listen to this. Somehow I don't have this classic album in any format -- someone must've walked away with my copy at some distant point in the past, and I had a hankering to listen to it again and lo, found that this remix seems to be the only easy way to obtain it. Thanks for the thoughts, folks.

The new remaster SOUNDS great, but I have issues with the remix itself. Some sound effects (Colony of Slippermen, for instance) were removed for no good reason, then some background vocals were added (Back In NYC) that were never there before. I've only listened to a little of these remasters (Hell, I still haven't made it through the '76-'82 Box, and it came out a few years ago). I bought the boxes mainly for the concert footage on the DVD's, and the "Extra Tracks" discs.

If by "easy" you mean "walk into a store and purchase", then that's true. But you can surely find the original CDs online used for cheap if the idea of a remix doesn't float your boat.

Just avoid the older CDs known as Definitive Remasters. They're tons of them out there so trying to find the real original original CDs from Atco may be tough to find (most sellers don't market the CDs properly).

The new remasters will be fine for the casual fan.

I love the new mix of Lamb especially on SACD.
Has the new Lamb remaster come out on its own yet?
I know that when I got the box set it was the only way you could get Lamb.

Amazon.com has an import of "The Lamb" available and according to the release date this should be the 2008 remix/remaster.

They did reissue the remixes overseas separately but with no 5.1 mixes.
