Just saw a thread on the JBF that Vladimir Fiks (who posted here as vf65) has passed away. He posted a lot of his art here in the Drawing Board and it was excellent stuff. Very sad.

I may be one of the few people who first knew Vladimir AS Vladimir.
If I remember correctly, he used to post on a Supergirl mailing list back
when Peter David was writing the book. He will be missed.

I'm sad to say I never really got to know him, as I don't often go to the Drawing Board.

Incredibly sorry to hear that he has passed on, my thoughts are with his family and friends.

Any updates on our Memorial section on IMWAN? That's 3 this year, all of whom deserve to be recognised for their contributions to this site, IMO.

RIP Vladmir.

Was he the guy who did weekly art jams? If I'm thinking of the same guy, then man that sucks (not that it doesn't, if I'm wrong). Its just I think I know who this is, and I remember thinking he was a proper artist who would still throw out compliments and advice for those of us who are less gifted wit' the pencil. RIP.

Never had much direct contact with Vlad, but always enjoyed his art and his posts. He was very encouraging to other artists, and seemed like a class act.

Unlike most IMWAN veterans, I am not a registered member of the John Byrne forum,
and I have no intention of EVER posting there. But I have not been able to find any reports
of Vladimir's death elsewhere on the web. Could someone please paste some information or
at least put up a link so I can tell some non-WANker friends of mine who also knew Vlad how
he died, and where to send their condolances?

I didn't know Vlad well, but he was a very good artist and he will be missed. Rest in peace.

So sad to hear this, I am happy I got the chance to compliment his great art abilities on a bunch of occasions, and as others have mentioned he was very encouraging to fellow artists as well. How old was he? So many are going so young lately.

I didn't know him well either, but he did seem like a really nice guy.
Very talented artist.
He gave me some very helpful advice re: some of my coloring.

Well I'm genuinely sad. Gerry confirmed he's the guy I was thinking of. I hadn't posted with him for a couple of years, since I'd stopped being a part of the sketchbook thread over there. But when I was, he was the best of us. A talented guy who gave input to those of us who weren't as blessed. Up til now I've never been affected by an online death, as I've never really interacted enough to feel that loss. But he was a real person to me. Not a friend or confidant. But a real guy with similar interests, who acted with decency. It just sucks.
