This may be the greatest opening credit sequence in the history of cinema!

But for Tommy's benefit:

If this had been a comic book first, this might have beaten Superman:

BTW, enjoy the John Williams music on the Superman youtube clips while you can.

That Swamp thing one is fun, but such a tease considering the campy schlock that followed it. I also really liked Burton's Batman opening, with the "Tour" of the bat-symbol. For a while it looks like it's going to be the entrance to the bat cave or something and with the excellent Elfman score it really set the tone for the movie and told viewers not to expect the old TV show. Of course Elfman has used a lot of similar sounding music since and other filmmakers have used the giant insignias approach so the opening has lost some of its effectiveness - but seeing it for the first time was very exciting for me.

That reminds me---I don't suppose the bank robbery at the beginning of The Dark Knight
counts since you don't see the credits (or indeed the title) of the movie under the very end?

I know where you're coming from, but I still go with S2.
Before seeing it I asked myself how they could possibly
come up with anything as good as S1. I was blown away
when i realized that they simply decided that since it's a sequal
in a franchise, use the same music while showing you the first movie
again before you watch the second.

My only complaint with Superman 2's credits, is the fact the didn't use the William score.
They used a sound-a-like, and it takes away some of the grandeur.
The original Superman theme by Williams is so #^$%ing cool. I still get shivers when I hear that shift in the chords at the very begining.

There really are no opening credits for either of the Nolan Batman movies... but they do start with that cool swarm of bats that vaguely form the bat-symbol.

I'm sorry, but I could not tell you how disappointed I was with the credits
to Superman 2, because I was mentally comparing them to the first movie.
I've loved the original credit sequence so much, that sometimes I used to
pop the VCR or DVD in and watch only that sequence. The movie itself is
pretty good, from what I remember, but the credits were a disappointment.
