The timing is all kinds of shameless.

Not necessarily...it is about 25 years since her debut.

In order to fill 2 CDs, this will have to include hits from both A&M and Virgin. Unless the second disc is remixes or something.

I can't imagine Janet having enough number ones to actually fill one CD. Unless they're basing on the r&b charts, hip hop charts or whatever.

They're probably just calling "Number Ones".... like how Destiny's Child called their compilation "#1s" despite only 3 or 4 of their tracks reaching number 1 on ANY chart.... rewriting history much?

I wonder if this will include any pre-Control songs or "Diamonds"?

I bought the import version of her previous hits set, Design of a Decade, because it had a bonus disc that included "Diamonds."

According to the latest Whitburn book, she's had 10 hits that reached #1 on the Billboard pop chart--5 on A&M, 4 on Virgin, and one on Def Jam (from a soundtrack). It's a good bet that some others topped the R&B or Dance charts.

I bought the import version for the single edits that weren't on the US release.

It would be nice to have her 80s and 90s hits (including Diamonds) on one collection.

Yikes! I though I did the right thing buying the US version.

Wow! That seems to have all of her hits. I can't think of any missing songs there.

Without doing any research, it sure looks like a comprehensive collection at first glance!

It's about as complete as you can get with the "Number Ones" title. I suppose
all of the songs hit number one on some chart in some country at some point in
time. There are alternate versions, radio mixes, remixes, edits and dance mixes
that exist for many of the songs on these discs. I guess those are being saved for a box set?
I bet Jimbo can verify their existence!

I'm not a fan (own none of her records) but if I were to own a Janet Jackson disc, this be it.

Surprisingly, that track listing looks like it pretty much does include all of her biggest hits (although the inclusion of a couple of tracks here is a bit baffling - ie. "Got Til It's Gone"). I assume the tracks without mixes specified are the single edits and not the full-length versions?

I do have several CD singles with a variety of mixes. There is an import CD of remixes from Control that was a big seller at the time.

I guess Carly Simon won't get any royalties from this compilation since "Son Of A Gun" isn't on it...
