I never knew Peter sang that many songs!

Four of Peter's are from his solo album, five of Ace's. It's kind of an interesting idea, but it doesn't hold much appeal for me because I already have most of it. When I was first scanning the track list, I thought there were some interesting and unusual choices, but when it clicked that the first was all Gene songs, and the rest of the list confirmed four discs, one for each member, it became less impressive. At the right price point, though, it would be a very cool way of getting into the band's catalog for a newbie.

They should do I like I did and compile the ultimate KISS compilation:

KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park: The 30th Anniversary Collection

Just take all the songs from the American TV movie and the European theatrical edit and you have an interesting, if unusual, KISS comp.

They are really stretching for idears for these endless repackages.

Cool idea! I'm in.

I doubt it was Gene's though. I can't imagine they'd do anything to help promote Ace and Peter – especially at a time when they tour with "the knock-offs." I wonder if this could be a sign of a new reunion?

I hope Ace and Peter refuse to take part in a reunion. I love KISS thru the good and bad albums . I just hate how Gene bashes Ace and Peter and basically blames everything on them . I know eveyone wants to make money but Gene goes overboard . He constantly says "if it wasn't for the fans " or " our fans are the greatest" . If he feels that way then treat us to unreleased stuff , he is the first to say they have recorded everything they have ever done since the beginning. I can't purchase another repckaged best of no matter how they try to shake it up . I'd rather see a box set of alternate takes etc .

Kind of after the fact, but I found this fun rant about the Ikons comp.

KISS Icons: The Latest Release from the KISS Marketing Machine
November 03, 2008 by Jerry Mathis

KISS Icons. What a name. More importantly, what a concept. Yet ANOTHER greatest hits package from the never-ending KISS hype machine.

The premise behind the idea is good - four CD's - where each one profiles contributions to the KISS catalog from each of the four original members: Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss.

The press release on the official KISS website states "a four-CD box set with each disc specifically dedicated to showcasing the lead vocal performances of one of the original KISS members-with half of the 56 selections appearing on a compilation for the first time".

I'm sorry.

I WON'T be buying this one. Half of the selections appearing on a compilation for the first time? Is that supposed to make me just run out and buy what I (and most KISS fans) already have on the regular studio albums?

Why? Let's just recap how many KISS "compilations" are already out there:

-Double Platinum

-Killers

-Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits

-You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best

-Greatest KISS

-Box Set

-The Very Best Of KISS

That's SEVEN (official) greatest hits collections. Six too much for me.

As a pretty die-hard KISS fan for the last thirty years I am tired of the constant monetization of the KISS brand. For me it cheapens what KISS was originally all about. It has turned into a Gene Simmons-run marketing juggernaut that peddles everything from KISS Kaskets to KISS Kondoms.

This same "get-the-fans-for-all-they-have-in-their-pockets" attitude is getting old. VERY old.

Fans should not be expected to throw down their hard earned cash for yet another mix-up of old material. Exactly how long do they think people will pay for it?

I think that the KISS catalog has simply been tapped out. There is a slim-to-none chance that we will see any new material; to be honest, if any new material WAS released and it was like the majority of "Psycho Circus", you can forget it. There were a few good songs there, but the rest of the album was weak. There simply is just no more room for any more "compilations".

Beaver Cleaver is right!

Wait, that's Jerry Mathers...

I guess my brain hasn't quite recovered from watching that Partridge Family movie this morning.

I respectfully submit that there is no such thing as a "unique" Kiss compilation.

There's also:

- Playlist Your Way
- Playlist Plus
- Gold
- 20th Century Masters: The Millenium Collection
- 20th Century Masters: The Millenium Collection Vol 2
- 20th Century Masters: The Millenium Collection Vol 3

And probably others.

Actually, there are at least two versions of Killers - one has "Sure Know Something", one has some Elder tracks (both of those may be on the same version).

There was also a comp called "The Best Of The Solo Albums" - three tracks from each of the discs. I don't think that ever came out on CD.

The good thing about Killers is that it had 4 songs unavailable elsewhere. I think since then, maybe 3 of the 4 have shown up on other compilations.

The Japanese version of Killers had two bonus tracks, "Shandi" and "Escape From The Island." I wish I still had that version, but I lent it to my cousin and it was rendered unplayable. I have the German version with the "backward Zs" KISS logo now.

According to Wikipedia, the Australian version had "Talk To Me" and "Shandi".
