I'm thinking of seeing this movie, but the bad reviews at Rotten Tomatoes are giving me second thoughts. Is this film getting panned because it's a "chick flick" movie or because it's a BAD "chick flick" movie?

Dunno. The book was utterly fantastic; I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. Still can't decide if I want to see what the movie has done with it.

I've heard that it is pretty good as a film chick flick or no

A book about Mrs. Nathaniel Richards? Isn't that continuity confusing enough already?

Book is brilliant- less optimistic about the film.

The trailer makes it look shockingly bad!

I've heard of the book, but didn't know there was a movie adaptation on the way.

From the trailer it looks like every time he gets an erection, he fades away. Is this true?

And if you DID like the story, the author now has another book out: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/27/books ... kal-t.html

The book was amazing. The movie sucked so much compared to the book. Maybe if I hadn't read the book I would think otherwise but I don't recommend seeing it if you have read the book. They pick up from where he first meets her in the library and covers him sparingly. The focus is on their relationship in a very quick dating, married, birth fashion. It was highly disappointing. They also changed the ending which drove me absolutely nuts.

Hearing how bad this movie is has made me want to read the novel, which is a good thing.
