Jeez, I am only six pages into this book and I am tearing up a little. I just love Brubaker. How could I not love a guy that sets a story in 1938 and features an aged Two-Gun-kid telling his story of times to come?

Anyone else reading this book?

Just finished the first issue. This looks like being a top notch series. It kind of reminds me of The Twelve (when is that going to get finished?).

I know of the Angel (perhaps one or two Golden Age Angel stories), and I have read a
few Two-Gun Kid issues in my life (mostly my sister's), but I don't know that much about
either of them, really. I kind of got the weird vibe that maybe they could turn out to be
the same guy, in a weird-time-travel-sort-of-way. That would seem like par for the course
for the time-traveling Two-Gun Kid if we found out that he was originally from the future
in the first place. Angel had a twin brother, too, I think. It's been a while....

Now I will pull out my HC reprint of Marvel Comics #1.

Mini series and maxi series (especially these days) should be completed
before issue #1 hits the stands.

Seems a good policy to me.

It also seems like a good idea to "finish" buying comics from creators and
companies that don't finish what they start.

That was pretty daggum good. I've always thought Marvel was missing a good, coherent mythology for its Golden Age characters. Because they had more continuance existence, DC did a better job of housekeeping the mythology as the years went by. But Marvel only really had the Invaders as a source of WWII myth.

This will be a nice little "reboot without a reboot." A contemporary telling of how it started. And the thing I like the most is the way it continues to be anchored in WWII.

I've explained in another thread somewhere that I think it is very, very important -- sublime, really -- that two Jews in 1940 depicted a new character called "Captain America" punching Hitler on the cover. We should never forget that. Their moral leadership in calling for action in their own way. America was a different place then. More of a cobbled together group of provinces, with a majority population that was immigrant or first generation. We were isolationist. We were apparently willing to watch Hitler march across all of Europe (seems unthinkable now, but then, we are so protected and insulated over here).

I will always associate the rise of the superhero with the "awakening" of America to its potential for good. So I always want Captain America to be created in WWII and then get frozen. I want Nick Fury to the be the guy that "got it done" back then, and somehow remains ageless through Shield technology.

Really digging this series - first issue was great and Epting's art was AMAZING (the namor sequence was breathtaking).

I liked it, I just don't want it to end up like 90% of the other minis out there, and take 3 years to finish 8 issues.
IF it ever gets finished at all.

Damn! I've also been waiting for The Twelve to finish!

I really enjoyed it. It was clearly JMS' attempt to do a "Marvel's Watchmen", but I couldn't help but like it.

As far as I remember it was selling pretty well and it was certainly well received by critics and fans. It was probably my favourite book during its short run on the stands.

The Twelve was good stuff. The covers alone were worth the price of purchasing them, IMO.

I was selling well.

I think everything started unraveling when JMS started hating on Joey Q when they disagreed about some aspect of One More Day (Spider-Man).
