Product Description
Michael Jackson The Stripped Mixes is an album of new mixes of early Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 classics. One month ago, a previously unreleased stripped mix of the Jackson 5 hit “I’ll Be There” was made available on iTunes. Now the full album, Michael Jackson The Stripped Mixes is available too! Utilizing the original Motown session tapes, these new mixes strip away certain instruments and studio frills to instead focus on the essence of the spectacular recordings--Michael’s vocals and the harmonies provided by his brothers. The recordings on Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes shine a fresh light on Michael Jackson’s early career and are proof that his music will live forever.

1. I'll Be There Jackson 5 3:55
2. Ben Michael Jackson 2:42
3. Who's Lovin' You Jackson 5 4:24
4. Ain't No Sunshine Michael Jackson 4:09
5. I Want You Back Jackson 5 3:48
6. ABC Jackson 5 3:11

Exactly what "frills" would you want to strip away from "I Want You Back" or "Never Can Say Goodbye"? Those are perfect productions in my book.

I heard some of this while browsing in a record store today, and it sounded pretty good. The (arguably) dated sound hasn't been entirely removed, but it is no longer up front.

Buying a Michael Jackson CD with "stripped" in the title just gives me the willies. And it scares the bejesus out of me, too.

I have to agree; this disc was surprisingly enjoyable. While I wouldn't reach for any of these stripped mixes over the immaculately-produced originals (you do miss the swirling strings, the horn embellishments, etc.), listening to the CD is the closest many of us will probably get to hearing the original, pre-overdub multitracks. So as a sort of alternate Motown history, and a great vocal showcase for young Michael Jackson, I would recommend this disc. For an ostensible cash-in (I believe that pre-Michael's death, the tracks were to be iTunes-exclusive?), this disc is actually of value. Recommended.
