Mark Ronson to produce second Rumble Strips album

Aug 12, 2008

Mark Ronson is set to produce the second album by The Rumble Strips.

The band have signed to Ronson's record label, Allido Records. The album is set to be released in spring 2009.

In a statement Ronson explained that he first became aware of The Rumble Strips when he heard their cover of Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black', the original of which Ronson produced.

"I came across The Rumble Strips through their cover of 'Back To Black', and Amy and I agreed it was kind of better than our own," he said.

"I picked up their album and fell in love with it," he continued. "Then I decided I wanted to sign them to my label and work on their next album. It was really as straightforward as that. We're all very excited about this."

Rumble Strips team up with Arcade Fire and Last Shadow Puppets man

Jan 22, 2009

The Rumble Strips have teamed up with Arcade Fire and The Last Shadow Puppets collaborator Owen Pallett on their forthcoming new album.

Pallett, aka Final Fantasy, worked with the band and producer Mark Ronson to add orchestral arrangements to the as-yet untitled album, which is now almost complete.

Pallet said he has high hopes for the record, which he compares to The La's' eponymous 1990 debut.

"The album is the most infectious record I've ever worked on," he enthused. "It reminds me a bit of The La's."

Pallet added that sessions for the album had been "easy".

Hear brand new Rumble Strips and Mark Ronson material now

Feb 11, 2009

The Rumble Strips have released video footage taken in New York recently during the recording of the forthcoming second album, which has been produced by Mark Ronson.

The footage, which you can see below, sees the band discussing the record and playing new song 'Douglas'.

Speaking about the new album in the video, frontman Charlie Waller said, "The last one [2007's 'Girls And Weather'] was true to our live sound at the time – this time Mark's got a much wider vision of what it could be.

"It was more of a blank slate this time, we hadn't really played the songs live much, they were demos. Mark had this real vision of making this classic-sounding, sort of a '60s sound – it was so different to how we'd ever sounded before."

Mark Ronson, Klaxons, The Horrors watch Rumble Strips preview new album

Mar 26, 2009

The Rumble Strips premiered their forthcoming second album 'Welcome To The Walk Alone' last night (March 25), by playing to a packed out crowd at London's Dingwalls.

The band, who were supported by Everything Everything, kicked off their set with new song 'London', the track the band recently made available as a free download from http://www.myspace.com/rumblestripsuk.

Watched by the likes of The Horrors frontman Faris Rotter, Klaxons' Jamie Reynolds and Mark Ronson, who produced the band's second record, The Rumble Strips played a 15-song set at the Camden venue.

Frontman Charlie Waller was in a relaxed mood throughout the gig, and responded jokingly to heavily-accented shouts from audience members about The Rumble Strips' south west roots - they hail from Tavistock in Devon.

"Who let the fucking janners in?!" Waller asked the crowd at one point, prompting more chants of "Tavvy!".

Although much of the band's set was made up of new songs, the biggest cheers came when they played old favourites 'No Soul', 'Motorcycle' and 'Alarm Clock'.

Of the new songs, 'Daniel' appeared to get the best reaction from the crowd, with many fans singing along by its end.

The Rumble Strips played:

'London'
'Backbone'
'Time'
'Not The Only Person'
'Welcome To The Walk Alone'
'No Soul'
'Douglas'
'Motorcycle'
'Running On Empty'
'Hands'
'Clouds'
'Daniel'
'Girls And Boys In Love'
'Sweet Heart Hooligan'
'Alarm Clock'

Rumble Strips announce new album tracklisting

May 5, 2009

The Rumble Strips have announced details of their Mark Ronson-produced album 'Welcome To The Walk Alone'.

The album - the band's second - will be released on July 13 in the UK.

Frontman Charlie Waller says the album sees the band adhering to a more ambitious sound that their debut, 2007's 'Girls And Weather'.

"When we started out I liked the ridiculousness of a small group with acoustic instruments defiantly playing as if we sounded like an orchestra we were like a team of arctic explorers in T-shirts and normal shoes joyfully pressing on. But this time, we needed to think bigger," he explained.

The tracklisting for 'Welcome To The Walk Alone' is as follows:

'Welcome To The Walk Alone'
'London'
'Not The Only Person'
'Daniel'
'Douglas'
'Back Bone'
'Sweet Heart Hooligan'
'Running On Empty'
'Dem Girls'
'Raindrops'
'Happy Hell'

The Rumble Strips play an album launch party at Bletchley Wilton Hall on July 15.

New Rumble Strips single 'inspired'' by mugging

May 15, 2009

The Rumble Strips' forthcoming new single recounts a mugging that went wrong, the band have revealed.

'Not The Only Person' is released on June 29, and will be the first single to be taken from the band's Mark Ronson-produced second album 'Welcome To The Walk Alone'.

The band have revealed that the song's lyrics were inspired by an incident last year when singer Charlie Waller and his wife were assailed by muggers, only for Mrs Waller to chase off the startled attackers.

Bizarrely, the song becomes an apology of sorts to the attackers for messing with his wife, featuring the lyric, "You're not the only person to get it wrong, it's alright – come back tomorrow night and you can take anything you want."

As well as production from Ronson, 'Welcome To The Walk Alone' was orchestrated by Owen Pallet, who has worked with Arcade Fire and The Last Shadow Puppets.
