Announced last week at http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Patty- ... on-1/11988 this has not yet been listed at Amazon.

For some reason, http://www.tvshowsondvd.com does not want their text to be copied and pasted. Suffice to say that this disc includes 36 (that's right, thirty-six) glorious black-and-white episodes from the 1963-64 season on six discs--bonus features (if any) to be announced.

Except for being syndicated on Nick At Nite for several years back duing the late 80's and early 90's, this series has been mostly locked away for the past forty years. This is quite a pleasant suprise.

Here's the text:

Shout! Factory has been full of surprises lately, and they're very latest is the classic '60s sitcom The Patty Duke Show - Season 1. Created by Sidney Sheldon, who's remembered for his thriller novels but also created I Dream of Jeannie as well as Hart to Hart, the series starred Oscar-winner Patty Duke (The Miracle Worker), Jean Byron, William Schallert, Paul O'Keefe and Eddie Applegate.

The show ran for three seasons, and 36 episodes from the first season are included, with appearances by John Spencer (The West Wing), Charles Nelson Reilly (Hollywood Squares), Margaret Hamilton (The Wizard of Oz), Frankie Avalon (Grease), Jimmy Dean (The Jimmy Dean Show), Roger C. Carmel (Star Trek, Transformers), Estelle Parsons (Roseanne), Marcia Strassman (Welcome Back, Kotter) and many more!

The 6-disc set will arrive on September 29th. Bonus material will be included, but hasn't been finalized yet. Video is full frame, audio is English mono, and English subtitles are said to be included. Pricing, running time and package art haven't been provided so far, but stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, here is the studio description:
Quote:
First Time On DVD!. Features 36 episodes on a 6-DVD Set. Aired on ABC from 1963-1966. Was in heavy syndication on Nick at Nite from 1988-1993. Currently in syndication on thisTV. Acclaimed author Sidney Sheldon was a series creator and wrote most of its 104 episodes.

The Patty Duke Show aired on ABC beginning September 18, 1963. It featured the misadventures of a pair of identical cousins, Patty Lane - a normal American teenager living in Brooklyn Heights, New York - and Cathy Lane - her Scottish cousin freshly arrived in the United States to finish her secondary schooling. Patty Duke, popular because of her recent Academy Award® for playing Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker (at the time she was the youngest person to have won an Oscar, for Best Supporting Actress), was chosen for her own self-titled vehicle, which featured her in not one, but two prominent roles.

The show lasted three seasons and was popular with both parents and teenagers. (It didn't hurt that the show featured a handful of then-popular guest stars like Frankie Avalon and Bobby Vinton.) Duke's soft beauty, and the show's more-than-wholesome quality made her an early teenaged pop idol.

I'll be getting this! Paul O'Keefe, who played her brother Ross and I played in a short-live band back in the 70's. I met him through an acting buddy who played drums. He was a really nice guy and he always had nice things to say about Patty.

Finally!
This was one of my favorite shows from that era. It was really well written, and all the performers were likeable and believable. I watched it when Nick had it, and remember liking it still, and not just for the nostalgia value.

I watched it when it was first on TV. I always thought Cathy was hotter than Patty (and she was A-OK to begin with).
This is a must buy.

Here's the Amazon pre-order link. It is being reported that all surviving cast members (William Schallert, Paul O'Keefe, Eddie Applegate, and of course Patty Duke) are taping interviews for this set.

Found a blurb on the Shout Factory message boards concerning this set:

Quote:
The first season of The Patty Duke Show will be released uncut.

The [unaired] pilot will not be included, due to a rights issue with Fox/MGM. However, the finale is a flashback episode that uses a lot of the scenes from the original pilot. That episode is there and intact.

The sole bonus feature on this disc will be a featurette looking back on the show with four members of the original cast, including Patty herself, William Schallert, Paul O'Keefe and Eddie Applegate.

There will be captioning on this set.

I knew they were both played by Patty - but I always thought Cathy was hotter - go figure...
