According to AICN, Taylor Kitsch has been cast as John Carter. Lynn Collins (Wolverine's girlfriend in Origins) has been cast as Dejah Thoris. I really like Taylor Kitsch but I'm not sure if he's right for the part. JC seems like he should be older and more world-weary. But I'm willing to give him a shot. The movie starts filming later this year in Utah.

I am not familiar with these actors. Maybe that is a good thing.

Taylor Kitsch has played Tim Riggins on the wonderful, yet woefully underwatched show Friday Night Lights (hence my title) and was Gambit in the Wolverine movie.

Lynn Collins was Silver Fox(?) in the Wolverine movie and has been in HBO's True Blood (I need to go back and look at that in case she had some nude scenes - whoa, did I say that out loud?)

Hope that helps.

Oh, yeah - John Carter is a Disney movie. Should be PG-13.

I thought I had heard Pixar was going to work on John Carter.

Andrew Stanton is directing but it's not under the Pixar banner. It's Disney but I think some of the Pixar folk will have their hands in it as well.

There are worse things to get caught up in. I heartily recommend the Burroughs.

I'll be watching carefully, but I refuse to get excited about this; I'm certain they'll get it all totally wrong and cause me no end of existential misery because of it.

This movie will kick ass and I will not stand for any nay-saying on the matter.

Tars Tarkas' upper torso will be played by Ryan Reynolds, his secondary torso and legs will be played by The Rock.

I'm surprised they didn't cast Zack Ephron.

I'm not sure there's a modern actress fit to play Deja Thoris. Deja had curves

Major, major curves.

Lisa Sparxxx would work.

Burroughs had her as slender, but I think more boys became men thinking of Frazetta's plump heroine.

Quote:
And the sight which met my eyes was that of a slender, girlish figure, similar in every detail to the earthly women of my past life. She did not see me at first, but just as she was disappearing through the portal of the building which was to be her prison she turned, and her eyes met mine. Her face was oval and beautiful in the extreme, her every feature was finely chiseled and exquisite, her eyes large and lustrous and her head surmounted by a mass of coal black, waving hair, caught loosely into a strange yet becoming coiffure. Her skin was of a light reddish copper color, against which the crimson glow of her cheeks and the ruby of her beautifully molded lips shone with a strangely enhancing effect.

She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect and symmetrical figure.

I have little or no faith in a Tarzan movie. They've never gotten it right. Greystoke was close but not quite good enough.

If they're going to steal the cast from Wolverine, then they should have lifted Hugh Jackman. The kid who plays Gambit is just too slender and small to be the John Carter of the books; he also lacks the gravitas to play that role as well.

Not excited so far.

Hugh Jackman would have been good. But I'm willing to give him a chance. He sounds southern, at least.

I'll almost definitely see the film, no matter what. I'm a big John Carter fan myself (favorite fictional novel).

Huge Burroughs junkie. Even so, it's hard to get pumped up about this. I know I'll go see it in the theater, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low.

I'm reading these right now. These are the Frazetta covers to the 1971 Doubleday hardbacks. I'm not sure why the Doubleday Science Fiction Book Club chose to start with the second John Carter book.

My first John Carter read was the Fighting Man/Mastermind of Mars Doubleday book that I found at the library. The Frazetta cover sold me. When eBay hit the scene, my first quest was to buy up every ERB hardback that I'd heard of but never seen.

The art inserts had me trying to draw like Frazetta for months.
