Don't know how this one slipped through the cracks, but I never saw this listed anywhere so they fooled me. This is the first ever release on CD of this title in full-originally a 2 DVD set in 2002. I believe there was a later release which was a CD/DVD combo but I don't think it was the whole show. Regardless, here it is, and it just came out a few weeks ago. As a Yes fanatic I have to get it. I did not care for the Symphonic tour when I saw it, but maybe now I'll give it another chance. Most impressive, right now, this is only $9.99 at Tower.com and $13.99 at Amazon.com! Yes is one of the most innovative and successful rock bands of all time, with a career that now spans five decades. In 2001 the band took to the road accompanied by a full orchestra for the first time in their career in support of their "symphonic" album "Magnification". Backed by the European Festival Orchestra, conducted by Wilhelm Keitel, Yes (Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Alan White & Chris Squire) performs tracks from the at-the-time new album the band, along with unique new versions of their classic tracks. This is the first time the complete show will be released on CD. DISC 11 Overture 2 Close To The Edge 3 Long Distance Runaround 4 Don't Go 5 In The Presence Of 6 Gates Of Delirium, The 7 Steve Howe Guitar Solo: Lute Concerto in D Major, 2nd Movement/ Mood For A Day DISC 21 Starship Trooper 2 Magnification 3 And You And I 4 Ritual 5 I've Seen All Good People 6 Owner Of A Lonely Heart 7 Roundabout http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001P50HOI/?tag=imwan-20

I know there were also similar albums of Genesis and Jethro Tull. Some actual band members were involved in these albums, but they're not good-pretty much Muzak. This new release is the soundtrack to the 2 DVD live set that came out in 2002, but was never fully on CD before.

I think that the DVD of this show is the best Yes on DVD you can buy. The CD version rocks too.

Remy, this is the one IP was talking about. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001P50HOI/?tag=imwan-20Thanks, IP!! I missed it, too! I thought it was the DVD being reissued and paid no attention!! I've just ordered it!! And I agree with IP about the CD you linked to. It's not a Yes album, but does feature separate appearances by Anderson, Howe, and Bruford on a few of the tracks. It's not horrible, but it's really just for completists. Neal

As a newbie YES fan, I dunno if I'd be interested in this. I'm still working on getting their original CD's...except Tormado, cause people online have said "don't bother, it sux!". But it does look interesting. If it's really good then I'll get it.

I like "Tormato", but it's not great (you say "Tormado" I say "Tormato"). But, Francine, it DOES have a hit in "Don't Kill The Whale" which was a Top 30 single in the UK and socred US airplay and is much loved by fans. Yes brought that back on the 2002 tour. Other great songs include the beautiful "Onward" which they played last year to my surprise, the awesome "On The Silent Wings Of Freedom" and cool songs like "Future Times/Rejoice", "Release Release" and "Arriving UFO". There are some corny songs like "Madrigal" and "Circus Of Heaven" (Jon Anderson at his worst), but overall, not even close to a bad album. Is it Yes at their best? Not really, but give it a try after you've listened to their masterpieces. Now, I'm a Yes nut, but I admit when they do crap (albums like "Yes", "Union", "Open Your Eyes"), but even those albums have some gems. As for this live album, I wouldn't make that your first Yes album only because this is with an orchestra. You'd be best off with "Yessongs", "Yesshows", "Live At Montreux 2003" (a pretty damn good album) and maybe "House Of Yes-Live At The House Of Blues.

I have it on good intel that Francine's first Yes CD purchase will be The Yes Album.
If I were going to advise a compilation for a Yes newbie, it would be Classic Yes.
It I were going to advise a live album for a Yes newbie, it would be Yessongs.

I agree that "Classic Yes" is a nice introduction (I especially like the LP that came with the bonus 45), but the 3 disc "Ultimate Yes" can be had for less than $18.00 new: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00016XNZM/?tag=imwan-20 This one has the studio versions of "Roundabout" and "I've Seen All Good People" whereas, I believe "Classic Yes" had live versions of those. Also, the only thing (other than those live versions) on "Classic" that is not on "Ultimate" is "The Fish". Nine songs on "Classic", 31 on "Ultimate". You'll even get "Don't Kill The Whale" from TORMATO! Just a consideration perhaps.

Francine, don't listen to the naysayers about this or any other Yes album, If you're enjoying your discovery of Yes music, you should experience it all and decide for yourself which are your favorites and which you dislike. Every Yes album has something to offer someone. While many consider Union and Magnification stinkers (including the band members who appear on them, it seems), I love both and listen to them as much as the early classics. Do Iisten to Tormato as often or rank it as high? No, but I'd never part with it, either. Here's a fair review of Tormato if you'd like to read more: http://www.progressiveworld.net/yes24.htmlEnjoy the total Yes experience. It's soul music! Neal

But if Francine is going to actually buy some Yes CDs (remember, Francine thinks everything is on the internet), I'm just trying to steer her in what I think is the right direction. This is based on what she's expressed an interest in previously. She can certainly check out Tormato stuff on youtube if she wants and then decide from there. Believe me, I know that being a Yes fan means you're passionate about them. I worked with a guy who was a keyboard player and Yes fan. We both debated Tales Of Topographic Oceans. I said it was excessive and flabby and he loved it.

He hated that album and hated playing it. He tells a story of getting caught eating a curry on stage while the rest of the band was playing the album. Anyway, he left the band and Patrick Moraz finished touring the album. He came back, though, after an album away, when the rest of the guys were willing to write and record shorter pieces (Going for the One). By the way, Tales is my all-time favorite Yes. It all comes back to a story I heard Paul McCartney tell on TV once. He said that he used to bad mouth Wings' Wild Life album all the time, but one day he was at a traffic light and the guy in the next car was playing that album. The driver called over to Paul about how much he loved it and that it was his favorite McCartney album. Paul said he realized that every album is someone's favorite.

Neal: Not sure about that Moraz thing. I believe Wakeman finished that tour and then quit checking himself into the hospital because he had messed his stomach up with drinking and stress. I don't ever recall Moraz on the Oceans tour. Moraz was with the band from 1974-76. In fact, Yes dropped 2 of the 4 pieces when they realized most fans were going the bathroom or worse yet, leaving the concerts during the entirety of Oceans. This pleased Wakeman to no end. Let me know if you know any dates Moraz played on the Oceans tour if I'm wrong as I'd love to hear it. He did eat curry and drink wine and read the newspaper on stage to show his disapproval though which is damn funny. I like some of Oceans and hate some of it-and it defines the word pretentious for sure, but it's still fascinating. Relayer is one of my all-time favorites though.
