As a child, what character(s) scared you the most on television? On another forum, "Land of the Lost's" Sleestacks seem to be the front-runner. I agree! I used to bury my face in the cusions of the sofa whenever thay appeared on the screen!

Same here, Frank, only the flying monkeys scared me, too.

Sleestaks. My cousins and I would play, and we could freak each other out by doing the Sleestak noise. I can still do a dead on Sleestak (easiest impression ever).
Sleestak: Highest ratio of scariness to speed ever.

Man, what a great question. Yeah, Sleestacks made me keep my hand on the dial. As for Wizard of Oz, I think I was more traumatized by the Witch of the East's dead legs sticking out from under Dorothy's house.
But probably cos that's how we lost my grandpa.
But the TV character that really really really scared me: Mr. Janos Skorzeny.
Watching The Night Stalker when I was -- what? -- seven, eight... I got so scared I think I actually got sick a little. It was awesome.
Saw it recently -- happy to say it holds up really well. Tight script, great characters, plausible real-world vampire story. But by far the scariest thing in it these days: Darren McGavin with his shirt off.
"And now, a little something for the ladies!" I bet that's what he was thinking...

The "tv" characters who scared me were simply movie guys on tv-early on Dracula/Wolfma/Frankenstein, then terrified of Jason/Freddy/Norman Bates. We had cable so these movies were on all the time
I was the type who was scared very late-like to 14/14 I could not watch movies like that.
I also had a tendency to fall asleep with the tv on, and I think they aired twilight zone, Honeymooners, and Star Trek back to back, and when I woke up-it seemed really really late probably was only 11 or 12, if i heard the theme songs or saw the openings of any of the 3, i would be so terrified I could not sleep all night. I learned to wake up and immediately jump up (no remote on this old black and white tv) and click the tv off so quickly so i heard nothing.
I can't off the top of my head remember any tv specific character who scared me

Oooh! Rob speaking of Star Trek reminded me of the closing credits of the original series- there was a shot of some large-headed alien that always freaked me out!

The Gorn? I'm pretty sure he is referring to the antagonist of "The Menagerie"---the one who kidnaps Christopher Pike in what was supposed to be the pilot episode of Star Trek...

Sivad was a local Horror Movie host on one of the tv channels. He has an entry here part way down the page: http://myweb.wvnet.edu/e-gor/tvhorrorho ... html#SivadHe came on late mights, so thankfully I wouldn't see him, but if I stayed up too late, My folks would turn on the channel, and tell me "Sivad's on this channel you better go to bed before he comes on." I was absolutely terrified of him. One time I was at my Aunt's house, and we were watching a 3 Stooges movie (which niether of us realized was on the Fantastic Features show), and I was sitting real close to the TV, and when they broke for commercial, Sivad's face was full screen. I jumped up screaming, and ran thru the house trying to hide from him. I didn't sleep for a week after that. (course it didn't help that my Dad was always telling me that if I was bad Sivad would come and get me, or the fact that he would stick his head in my room at night and tell me Sivad was in the closet, or under my bed! Whatta prick my dad was at times!)

I was most freaked out by the faceless androids from the Doctor Who story "Earthshock" who were guarding a hatch in a cavern on behalf of the Cybermen. Their appearance didn't freak me out, it was that they left their victims as puddles of bubbling liquid, with just their name badges and communicators left behind.
