If you ordered the SACD import version of this set from Amazon.com you might want to check your order again. When I looked at mine I noticed that they have substituted the domestic version for the one I originally ordered. This has been done without my approval. Amazon is now showing the import as "discontinued".

It's the less expensive import that they stopped listing. This is the SACD + DVD-PAL version, and at a price too low for them to honor. The listing for the $230 import(obviously, the SACD + DVD-NTSC edition) remains on the Amazon website.

Question for the audiophiles among us -- to my knowledge, the US releases of the Genesis boxes have 96/24 DTS 5.1 tracks as well as 48/24 Dolby Surround tracks. While the Dolby is obviously inferior to the SACD resolution (and it's still maddeningly frustrating that Rhino wouldn't release these in Advanced Resolution DVD-A) and there's no hi-rez stereo track present, shouldn't the 96/24 DTS sound be roughly comparable to the SACD sound, or to a real DVD-A "Advanced Resolution" surround track in 96/24? Thanks!

DTS is still lossy data reduction which omits sounds, though it's not quite as reduced as Dolby Digital. Still, DTS is no substitute for the Hi-Rez audio of DVD-Audio or SACD.

I heard 2 of the albums today in DTS Surround over at Bill's house.

They (Nursery Cryme/ Selling England) sounded wonderful. The surround mixes were truthful and not gimmicky. They weren't earbleeders like the first 2 boxes and presented a very musical experience.

Now this is the way Genesis should sound. The DTS mix is damn good. Makes me wonder how much better the SACD version will be.

Great news, looking forward to this box. I bet "Foxtrot" is going to sound real good as well.
"Selling England..." maybe my favorite Genesis album of all time.

Rick A.

PS Glad to hear about your visit with Bill L. What great gifts he presented all of us with his work at Polygram.

When I win the lottery I WILL buy the UK SACD box. I'm not going to bother with the USA edition unless BMG gets it at a real blow out price ($35 or less).

Bannings: If you're not nice
Updating the ordering links, since Amazon has moved everything around since this thread was first posted.

The UK version of the box, which contains hybrid SACDs, can be purchased here (directly from Amazon UK is the better choice of the two) ...

Amazon USA:

Amazon UK:

The USA version of the box, containing redbook CDs and DVDs with 5.1 audio mixes of the albums, is available here ...

Ended up buying the Rhino box set from Borders using their 40% off coupon today. Couldn't wait any longer. Have to have something to play in Surround asap.

I've decided to wait until I can track down the UK export edition(SACD + DVD-NTSC), because this morning, I received an e-mail from EMI/UK catalogue director Nigel Reeve assuring me that the UK export & domestic editions were released simultaneously this week.

Let us know if you get a good deal on the SACD version.

BMG's yourmusic.com did end up selling the individual Rhino versions. I picked up a few for my car.

I just went to yourmusic.com & no Genesis at all. "We're sorry, there are no Genesis albums available at this time.
Below are similar artists you may enjoy."

I know that BMG club lost all WEA product.

Do you have a special link or...?

Hey guys, I've got a question for ya: If I live in America and I get the UK SACD version (because there is no US SACD one), will the DVDs play in my region one DVD player?

The EMI/UK editions, both the Domestic(SACD + DVD-PAL) & export edition(SACD + DVD-NTSC) are region Zero(I.E. all regions), since EMI/Uk doesn't use regional coding. I would advise you to seek out the UK export edition(SACD + DVD-NTSC) which should be commonly available within a month, unless you have a DVD player which is equiped to play PAL discs and convert the signal to the North American NTSC format(Oppo players and most recent Denon players can convert PAL to NTSC). As for myself, I have a multisystem T.V. & multisystem DVD player and can play PAL materials in the PAL format without conversion.

No doubt that was before WEA product loss. While I am not a yourmusic member, since I had a better deal with BMG employee thing, I almost became one for the Genesis sets. Reason? My Employee thing was costing me $10 for the cd/dvd combo; yourmusic was charge 6.99 for the same.

Never got off my ass on it, and when WEA product was pulled, I remember checking both sites to see if I missed out - yep. At least I was able to get a few of the Robert Plant remasters - I must have gotten them the week they pulled the plug. It was a lesson that if I see something, I better get it now!

Yes, BMG pulled the Genesis remasters. I picked up a few before they were excised.

Today I've been listening to The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway in DTS Surround using my PS3 as the DVD player and my Denon receiver as the power amp.

Right off the bat I didn't have to quickly reach for the volume knob on the Denon. The other box sets couldn't be listened to comfortably without turning down the volume to a -30 (I usually listen to music at around -21). Right now its set at -22 and its good.

Wow there is some bass on this remix. Many of the songs really have some bottom. Listening to "The Lamia" right now and it is gorgeous.

Another bonus is as the music plays, the screen on the TV changes with the story as it progresses. I assume this is from Genesis's shows from that era. It shows 3 panels that have some real interesting photos and artwork. In some of the panels you actually get to see Genesis from 1974 in concert performing The Lamb! This is real art-rock!

I have heard Nursery Cryme and Selling England By The Pound on Bill L's system and they were fantastic. The Lamb does suffer from a bit too much maximizing which makes loud passages a little hot but overall this new box judging from this album is a big improvement over the last 2 boxes.

It just amazing to finally hear The Lamb the way it was supposed to sound....in Surround. Just magical. :)

btw....I was gonna post my opinions on this new box over at Hoffman today but they've pulled the thread. :(
Can't Genesis fans get along?

Great, now do you have a link for the SACD/DVD/NTSC version? How do I distinguish between the normal UK version and the export one?
