Silly, silly, silly episode tonight.

Very surprised they didn't hit the Technobabble Reset Button to give the whole thing a happy ending... which, I hate to say it, would have been the perfect end to it.

More hints that things will not end well for Rose.

And when doing the whole history thing, I found myself hoping for some hint of the previous Doctors, like a blurred photo of THE COAT or a heiroglyph of an impossibly long scarf... or, even better, a quick cameo of Tom Baker in the past going, "well, hello".

I loved that they did the classic hallway chase gag with Rose, The Doctor, and the Alien at the beginning. That really set the tone for the whole episode. That and the ELO soundtrack.

And it was most definitely a story I'd never seen done in Dr Who before, which was great. I would have liked it even more if they'd managed to work in some cameos, like Sarah Jane on the phone in the background or something, but obviously there wasn't the budget.

Still, a very refreshing episode with some of those poignient moments that make it stay with you longer than the usual gag-a-minute style story.

This may actually be my favorite episode this season. Possibly even for both seasons.

I found myself hoping for a few bits of old footage or some photos of the old doctors. It really was the perfect set-up to do a little something.

I had to pause when they did the literary deconstruction of The Doctor to see if they had slipped in an old Doctor costume... they didn't.

Mostly, just hoping for something for the Freeze-Frame crowd... then again, maybe there was something and I just didn't notice it.

It reminded me a lot of the Buffy episode, "The Zeppo."

I liked how he mentioned that he and Ursula "have something of a love life" as he's holding her paving stone in his lap.

Harry Potter fans: did you recognize Ursula as Moaning Myrtle?

Recognized her and Marc Warren from Hustle, which is one of my BBC faves at the moment.

Dear God!

The episode itself was mildly interesting, but that preview for next week! That was better than...

DAMN. Be afraid for Rose.

My guess is that she's going to stop travelling with The Doctor because her dad from the alternate Earth passes over and hooks up with her mom... and she decides to stay to get to know her dad.

I wouldn't mind seeing the return of Mickey as Companion. He's been off-screen long enough that we can justify him being tons more competent.

I'm thinking we're done with the Powell Estate Gang. As much as I've always liked Jackie, and mickie grew on me, they've forced the show to stay too close to Earth.

It's like the Pertwee era - by the end of the ninth season, they HAD to get the TARDIS working, because the UNIT-based stories had pretty much run their course. Using it as a base to return to was OK, but it sure was nice when Baker came along and they left '70s Earth and didn't come back for a full season

They'll probably introduce someone completely new in the Christmas special, although there are rumors that one of the guest stars in the finale will be the new girl.

The main function of this episode was to show how close the Doctor and Rose have become. Though his line about already having been a father once (and her obvious WTF? reaction) shows she still has no clue about the Doctor, really.

That line was also a real geek-out Dr Who line, because Susan really was his Grand-Daughter even though she's never mentioned any longer.

OK, that lived up to the trailer.

I'd heard rumors about the contents of the sphere, but I thought, nah, they wouldn't!

But they did.

And my God, did it rock.

Let's just hope the Time Lords have a sphere of their own. Because Lord President Romana coming out would have been the only thing cooler.

I'm thinking we'll be without the other Time Lords for a while longer. I expect we'll see The Master next season, just cuz there's only one major baddie left. I really want them to sign up Tom Baker for the job, he was joking about it before the first season. He's said he'd even grow the beard.

And after this week's episode (and trailer for next week's), I'm definitely thinking that Rose is going to live. The prologue is a bit too on-the-nose and Jackie's dialogue too cute and leading. And with this episode returning Mickey, and the preview showing another return... yeah, she's going to die an old lady on Earth and this is her last adventure. She's got every reason to stay.

Wow. I totally got my geek on, now.

The new Lovely Assistant has been announced.

She'll be played by Freema Agyeman, who played Adeola in this week's episode.

Needless to say, due to the WORST BLUETOOTH HEADSET EVER, she'll be playing a different character next season, named Martha Jones. She'll debut in the 29th/3rd season premiere. They say there will be "a surprise" bit of casting for the 2006 Christmas special (I'm hoping for Carole Ann Ford. Holidays should be spent with family).

Seems weird that they're choosing someone from another role in the final storyline to be the next Companion. It was weird when they had Romana do it, it's weird now. Maybe it's a twin or her parallel dimensional self. Ooooh, or a Time Lord doing the Romana thing.

I think they should make Colin Baker his Companion... no one would expect that.

They need to have Teri Hatcher as his companion. Forget those English babes.

If we're going American, I nominate Eliza Dushku.

There's a reason Dr. Evelyn Smythe is only a companion in the audio adventures.

But man, I want Romana back! Have the Time Lords reappear, Lalla Ward makes a brief cameo, they fight the Daleks and she regenerates at the end into Kate Lawler.

Wouldn't she make a nice Romana? The elegance of the first with the cheeky, adorable charm of the second.
