Alrighty.... following are some scans of stuff I did a long time ago. For most of these I would have been 13 or 14 years old. Pretty amateur stuff to be sure, but hey... it's all fun, right?

I started out by just drawing heads of the Marvel heroes I was reading at the time...

Here's a nice close-up of the Black Panther from above... I remember being quite proud of this one...

13 or 14, eh? Well, it's still much better than I can do now.

I sketched this one while sitting in the back of my Algebra class... it's one of the only pieces I actually pulled out of one my school notebooks and put in "my portfolio". Heh. I even took the time to run a little ink over it when I got home...

Many of you might recognize this one from the Art of John Byrne book. I don't how many hours I spent recreating pictures from that and the Art of Neal Adams (Vol. 2) book...

I drew a lot of Dr. Doom... some worked, some didn't... Mostly "didn't", which was I probably spent so much time drawing him.

(I *do* still like this Skrull shot, though...)

I never got around to finishing this one... would have been a George Perez shot I was re-drawing, I think...

Somewhere along the way, I took to drawing full figures... usually from covers. Was never a big He-Man fan, but I liked the cover art...

My lettering and titles always sucked! And what's with Conan's nose here? I must apologize! (Looking back at these, hair was a bit of a problem for me, too.)

For my 14th birthday, my folks got me this awesome set of markers - 100 colors! I destroyed quite a bit of my artwork coloring things that year....

I always kinda liked this one... the face could use a little work, and the proportions are a little off, but still...

Finally, jump ahead 4 years or so... I was screwing around with a Koala Pad on my Commodore 64 and came up with this...

Wish I had saved some of my work from my teenage years...you would be amazed on how much it looks like Dan's work.

Very cool. I have one question, however; did you stop drawing? I mean, its clear that you liked to draw, and were driven enough to put a lot of effort into it, so do you still draw?

The only drawing I do anymore is just doodling... pages of stuff while on conference calls and in meetings. My current avatar is "My Guy"... I often find myself drawing him on whiteboards in other peoples offices and cubes, on paper tablecloths in those restaurants that encourage you to do so, etc. I also have "Another My Guy" that I'll change my avatar to later. I've been tagging places with these guys for nearly 25 years now!

I quit trying to draw in the 11th grade (there's that eleven thing again!)... I was in "Senior Studio" (an art class reserved for seniors, but the art teacher let me - a lowly junior - into the class) surrounded by "real artists" and having a tough time keeping up. I ended up with an "A" in the class, but every piece was WORK! The other guys around were whipping things out left and right and I had to concentrate and work on every piece. I figured then that it just wasn't for me.
