The only other one I've done is Hammer Films Hound of the Baskervilles:

Pretty much using Gimp to do these at this point. This also is where I started not being able to make up my mind about different versions of the cover or layout, so I'd just do them both.

I was pretty pleased with this one. Learned a few of the features on Gimp and put them to use.

This was one of the first covers I took a crack at. Original:

Redo with two different fronts:

This one was a request at another board. Wasn't too happy with this version:

So I did this one with the blessings of Bruce Timm and Dick Klemensen, the publisher of Little Shoppe of Horrors magazine. Twas the cover to issue 18 of the mag.

Last one until I get in gear and make some more.

Since at least a dozen of these were mst3k episodes, are you a fan?

Also, where do you find high enough res movie posters to source from?

That's the Spanish (I think, been awhile since I did that one) poster on the front. Good flick.

No, I've actually never seen the show. Which ones were on it? One would have to be The Astounding She Monster. I hear it's terrible, haven't watched it yet, got it basically because I liked the poster. :-D

Two good places for large posters:

http://www.wrongsideoftheart.com/gallery/

and they get a lot of the images, I suspect, from here:

http://movieposters.ha.com/common/searc ... 4+790+231+

you have to register at Heritage Auctions to view the large images though.
A lot of the covers I've did weren't large images, especially the foreign posters that I'd redo, I'd enlarge them and touch up whatever distortion that appeared from the enlargement.

Like this one, here's the full sized image of the original poster
Image

that became this cover

I just read "The Devil's Rain" description.
Not a bad movie.
But that cast!
Why wasn't that a MAJOR release?
I saw it when it was new, and I know the answer to my question from a "product' point of view,
but since when did that matter? From a 'promotion' point of view this should have been BIG!

I guess that even a all star cast can't save a movie that was considered pretty terrible at the time (and still is.) Another I haven't watched yet, I'm too busy making the covers to actually watch the movies, but when you have a cast like that, and none of the major studios will distribute it, it tells you something.

Hey Nagoo...

Here's the version I came up with:

Resized Image - Click For Actual Size

and here's one I found online searching for images. I don't know who the artist is, but I really like it. (I tweaked it a bit, the stills had a moviegoods logo on them, so I painted that out, and I flipped the spine logo.)

Had a couple guys on the CHFB ask if I could come with something to replace the "floating heads" cover of the new Wolfman DVD that they have. I did a DVD version, and my first Blu-Ray cover.

Much better! Floating heads covers all start to look the same after a while.

Awesome! I am going to print them up and use them.

Thanks Ross.

Nagoo, if you want hi-rez versions to print, just let me know where to send them.

I agree; I've noticed a lot of "hack" design on movie posters and DVD covers these days... not as much creativity as there should be.
