Aye. As a response to the John Byrne thread I simply feel that we need this thread, for another of that generations star-artists. :)

So if you've got a bob layton-piece hankering around somewhere, this is the place to post it, in my eyes.

I'll start off with what I've got so far, granted it aint much, and some of them aren't even done, but it's a start.

THIS... is one of my older works, and damn was I green... This was also the actual size of the scan that I found, stupidly small. What was I thinking? I don't know... Never found a bigger scan tho.

More contemporary, but only about 58% done.

This one is brand new, among my freshest stuff, and will probably gain some benefit from my new Wacom Bamboo. Wether it'll be better or worse than previous outings, who knows? Presently I'd say it's only 40% done.

Can't believe how happy I am to finally find a GOOD colourable drawing of my favourite version of Brainiac tho. ^^

...I thinking posting of all my Bob Layton colouring in this thread would be overkill-pimping ;)

I love that genocidal emotionless monster...

IAN: What do you wager about Brainiacs hollow glass arms? they should be somewhat transparent to the background-colours? Also, would I need to change the colour-holds on the glass and not just the colours to show that?

And yes, Ian is a the Pimp! ^^

Well, my impulse would be to indeed show a bit of the colour pattern behind the glass in the glass modelling - perhaps even curving those background lines to show light bending through glass.

I always find glass linework works best if it is colour-held. You could try ch-ing it to white to see how you like it, then just play around with it.

I'm back! And I've brought with me an ACTUAL COMPLETED PIECE! 0_0

Not quite my usual style, a little bit more lose with the light and shadows, and such.

Man...I've probably been working on and off on this thing for a year! I really do lose interest too quick, before I make those last final touches. Oh well, I suppose that's rather easy when you're not working for money or towards some kind of deadline.

I think next I'm going to complete the Brainiac one, because that one is quite simple, and has gone pretty far ahead now.

BRAINIAC is reborn! :)

Finally completed this pic of my favourite Brainiac-version of all time. The version that debuted shortly before the Crisis, flies a skull-shaped ship and who's career was sadly cut far too short...
