Here are the pencils for a new piece that I'm going to be making prints out of for the Comic Expo next weekend. She's my character The Angel of Tatters who will be making an appearance in BATTLEWITCH... whenever I get around to finishing the first damn chapter

Sorry for my ignorance...what is Advanced Iron?
Nice stuff, by the way!

No problem - Advanced Iron is an e-zine about Iron Man. I did the cover to issue #70, as well as colouring the cover (that was drawn by Bob Layton) for #68.
The site appears to be down right now, but I'll post up links when it is up again - perhaps issue #71 will be available by then
And thanks

Great job. But a question. How does him commissioning you work. Do you work on an electronic file, or do you get out the markers or paint.
What is the customer receiving? If its a file, do you do any non computer coloring?
Just Curious as Ive seen other people mentioning wanting to get a commission colored.

What came back Gerry was it an electronic file? Do you then print it and hang it?
I prefer colored images to the black and white, so if I ever did a commission I would want to hang it in color.

Do you work on an electronic file, or do you get out the markers or paint. What is the customer receiving? If its a file, do you do any non computer coloring? Just Curious as Ive seen other people mentioning wanting to get a commission colored. The basic procedure is that I receive a hi-resolution (300dpi or higher) image of the page to be coloured, and I do the colouring entirely in Photoshop. The customer receives a lo-resolution version first, so they can approve it or ask for any changes, and then I send them the high-resolution print-ready file. They can then take that file to any printing company ( Staples does it, but I really recommend shopping around - I get pieces printed at one local company for about half of what Staples charges) and get it printed up. I don't print it up and send it to the client, as that would end up being a lot more expensive overall. Everybody seems to be pretty happy with this - the original artwork is never touched, so it stays in the same condition. Plus, as the customer has the original file, if something happens to their colour version (say, it gets damaged by too much exposure to the sun), they can get another copy printed up any time they want. The only non-computer colouring I do is some coloured pencil work - however, I only do that for my original stuff, and I really don't feel comfortable colouring over the work of other artists with them (mostly I'm worried about damaging the original piece). You can see a lot more of my work at my website and my Comic Art Fans gallery

thanks for the info Gerry. Followed your link. The coloring is fantastic. To me it brings life and depth to the picture. When you get it printed keep me informed on how(Where, size that you lose quality etc., costs.) This definitley looks like the way to go and would want to factor it into a budget.

Thanks for the info Ian.
That answers my question. Seeing the side by side on the wondergirl reaffirms for me, that funny books should be in color. I'm going to go have some fun in your gallery now.

One real advantage to colouring on a computer vs traditional methods is the saving on shipping costs - for instance, Gerry and I are on different continents. Even shipping just a CD costs about $45 US from here! Never mind how long it can take to get there...
It used to be that any completed file over 10megs had to be burned to a CD and shipped (that's why I know the cost - I've had to send CD's to England in the past, and it should be the same to send to Scotland). I was using YouSendIt for a little bit, but it seems to be buggy or something - I just ran into a few problems.
Now, however, I've got my own FTP server, so that isn't an issue any more. It saves everyone a lot of time and money.
