So last year I collected all my Sir Chuck material -- from the earliest rough cartoons from the early '80s all the way to my post-Kubert material -- and put together a book for my friends and family (friends got it last year, family gets it this year) and had them printed by Lulu.com (see Taft's Lulu.com thread).

And I just now discovered that I can sell these things through "Restricted" links -- that is, the books aren't searchable on Lulu.com, but I can hand out the weblinks to anyone I want. Now, there's some images involving trademarked characters in a few instances, and though they are definitely parodies and should, therefore, fall under fair use, I don't want to step on any toes since these were originally just for family and friends and therefore I didn't list any copyright and trademark comments. This is why I'm going this route -- eventually I may make a "cleaner" version that does not contain this material and sell it generally, but for now, not so much.

Anyway, if people here are interested in checking out some of my early Sir Chuck stuff, I'm happy to provide you with the link -- just PM me and I'll clue you in. The book comes as a $35 hardcover or a $20 softcover, runs about 168 pages (120 or so of which contain really crude but funny drawings), and features a 93-page story that I drew back in the summer of '83 while hopped up on Pepsi and Kit Kats and watching afternoon television, as well as 15 pages worth of single panel gag cartoons I did after a semester at JKS.

There's also a preview of the Sir Chuck webcomic that I still haven't done yet.

Anyway, that's book #1 that I've self-published.

Book #2 is of interest only to die-hard role playing gamers who have played the Amber Diceless Role Playing Game or those fans of Zelazny's Amber chronicles who want to see me and my friends totally destroy that universe.

I ran an Amber campaign from January of 1992 to July of 1993 (well, with a few breaks and other campaigns in-between), and I kept all the journals, campaign logs, drawings, notes, and other campaign materials with the intention of one day providing the players of that campaign a compilation of all the material.

Well, I've finally made that compilation. I'm providing that book to my players and to anyone else who is interested as either a $5 PDF file, a $25 softcover or a $40 hardcover. This one clocks in at nearly 500 pages and features character drawings by me as well as my players, but also contains previously published and copyrighted artwork from the Amber game and a few other sources that were used to illustrate characters and places, so, again, I'm not making this one available to the general public -- if you're interested in that (and I really don't expect anyone to be), PM me about that one as well.

So, if you're interested in either of these, let me know.

Very cool to make these available to others, Twitch. That collection of all your Sir Chuck stuff interests me.

They both sound pretty interesting. Can I wait until after the holidays to order them?

Hook me up with a link, Twitchy. I'll be in for either a softcover or hardcover after Christmas.

John, would it be within Lulu.com's rules to post those links publicly here in this thread? I don't want to get you thrown out of Lulu but it would be a lot more efficient than having to PM person after person.

Oh, sure -- the only reason I was doing the one-on-one thing was to reduce the amount of attention my theoretical trademark infringements might incur -- but considering they're parody and should be protected under fair use, I'll be happy to post the links here for anyone who's interested:

The Sir Chuck book:

The softcover
The hardcover version

There's previews as well -- I recommend looking at the preview on the hardcover version's link, since the softcover just shows the first 15 pages or something, but on the hardcover I selected a few choice pages.

Considering there's plenty of copyright issues with the Amber stuff, if anyone's interested in those, please continue to PM me -- they're really only a curiosity anyway, considering it's game journals from a role playing game.

I'll be up for some Sir Chuck after Christmas, Unc.

I always thought the brief glimpses you've given us looked like good fun.

I'd say posting the links is fair game. And a quick nod as we unstickify this one! Thanks, UT!

I've got my copy - just today!

It's excellent. It's really a lot of fun to read, and it's interesting to see the evolution of these characters, and John's drawing. It reminds me a bit of the Elfquest Gatherum, in that it's a kind of chronicle or 'behind the scenes' look at the whole creative process itself.

I'm going to read it properly tomorrow, and will report back in this thread. Unc has done a great job, and the presentation is professional and slick.

"Frazetta, eat your heart out!"
