Let's try something slightly more elaborate this month - Comic Book Covers!

Any character you like, colour or black 'n' white. Come up with something interesting as a cover shot, with titles and indicia.

I'll get everyone started with something I did a few years ago, a piece featuring a tweaked version of Satan Girl.

For those not in the know, Satan Girl was a duplicate of Supergirl created through exposure to Red Kryptonite (IIRC).

Ha! I can post my self-published comic from a few years ago. Of course I have to be home, so it will be done later.

Here comes the king of unfinished work.. Here's a Dave Cockrum homage rough sketch. For Avengers 9....

I'd suggest working on your lineweights first. Try making the lines around the figures thicker, and then the lines detailing the major muscle groups and costume elements slightly less thick, and then the fine details the thinnest.

As you asked, Thor, wasp and Iron Man are all very well done. I really like the Thor

Simons a bit stiff-Especially as central figure. The angle in your prelim for his head at least seemed more dynamic. Faces are a bit inconsistant. Ie I like the simplicity with Thor and Jan. Hank Simon and Cap seem off, each for different reasons. Ie Simon is emotionless, Hank is caught between realistic and cartoony And Cap, its probably the eyes.


I'm not familiar with the cover that is your influence. But very nice work. And again, really like that Thor figure.

I was going for emotionless with Simon. I've been trying to tweak Cap, unsuccessfully, and I think I can fix Hank... thanks for the input, Officer.

Ok, I now realize I have a few cover and cover re-creations scanned in. First the cover to my self-published comic. We could only afford one color plus black. It is a b&w comicand I didn't ink the cover.. If anybody wants one just PM me.

The comic is two 8 pages stories. It is kind of a campy Flash Gordon, in which I combined with a Marvel style drawing. The first story is the Origin of Kitty Nova. Cap travelsback to the 50s following his arch-nemisis Andre Bloodstone and brings back Kitty Nova. The second story is the Cap and Johnny Halo vs. the Dragons of Empiria. The buxom Princess of Empiria falls in love with Johnny and he has to fight the Dragon to get out of this mess. This one is posted in my Drawing Board thread.
