Now we move on to highlights. I basically used the same technique I used for shadows except some of the selections in Batman's cape were very long so I used the polygonal lasso tool rather than the regular lasso tool to make the selections. There are a lot of ways to create lighter colors, but for the time being I was satisfied with either adding some white or by decreasing the saturation of the base color.

After adding highlights to Batman he was looking a little flat so I decided to add some additional shadows. Since he is slightly hunched over I decreased the brightness in the waist area to push it back further and give the figure more depth.

Well, if it were 1985 we would be done, but since it's not we have a lot more work to do. Next up I will use gradients to create more depth and give the figures more three dimensional form.

Looking good! And it's cool to read how you do it as well.

Well there you have it. I used several gradients and color holds as well as an overlay layer set on hard light to create planar depth and to make the figures more three dimensional. Next, I saved the photoshop file as a jpeg, desaturated the color and then used the color balance and contrast settings to give the image an eerie green glow. Finally, I added a little noise to give the image a more misty/grainy appearance. I hope you have enjoyed this little exercise as much as I have.

Sorry man. This lull in commissions has me focused on penciling so you might not see anything for awhile.

I'm about to BAN you, Nagoo....

:sigh:

No, not yet. I seem to be able to get a good few session in, and then real life comes in and sits on me, and forces me to be responsible... I will finish it, tho. I don't lack much.

I'm a Trekkie not a Trekker so please take these comments in context. Go see Star Trek. Great movie. Nice re-booting of the franchise without completely trampling the past. Humor, action, effects...what more can you ask for?

I saw it opening weekend. Loved it. Mrs. Judge loved it as well.

So I wonder if the garbage truck made the same S-FLANG sound effect while rounding up the Defenders?

Byrne's stuff looks so much better when colored. Correctly, of course. But certainly colored.

Nice work on that.
