That's a good drawing, Rick. Calling someone "Dog" has been ruined for me by the 90s though. :) Automatically makes me think of jock douchebags calling each other "nickname-dog!" and high fiving each other.

Well, a sun dog is an actual phenomenon, the name of which goes back several hundred years in Europe but it was also a term used by the Plains Indians for the same effect.

I came across it again, recently, in a book I had already read several times. I guess this time it registered.

And I had actually seen one a few years ago without knowing what I was looking at. I was wondering how in the hell a spot near the sun could be as bright as the sun.

Thought it would be a good excuse for a Native American hero.

He is now the powerhouse in the Lionman's universe. Sub-Mariner level strength and invulnerability with maybe Uncle Roger's Starman for other powers.

How he got that way I haven't a clue. :|

I've never seen anything like that. I guess it's similar to the fata morgana atmospheric effect over water?

Wiki sez: Sun dogs are a member of a large family of halos, created by light interacting with ice crystals in the atmosphere. Sun dogs typically appear as two subtly colored patches of light to the left and right of the Sun, approximately 22° distant and at the same elevation above the horizon as the Sun. They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season, but they are not always obvious or bright. Sun dogs are best seen and are most conspicuous when the Sun is close to the horizon.

If you remember the photo I posted I called The Phoenix because of the light and the cloud formations, I took a whole sequence that day. This shot was later. From what I've seen online a sun dog is not always on both sides and if I'm not mistaken that's what this is:

Image

Both the actual sun and that spot on the left were blindingly bright. Never seen anything like it before or since. But ice crystals? It was a warm day, at least on the ground. So maybe not.

You serious guys if you were livin' out in the country would have a thousand high-quality photos by now. :D

Cool design. Is there an accent over the 'L'?

Guess who the Lionman will mistake for a Hyena Cult soldier.

Those ennui-engorged fan-boys mock the pretenses need to get two heroes to fight each other "before the inevitable team-up".

I liked that kinda stuff, myself..

Shouldn't it go over the second 'A'?

Yes. Really. :D

I would put more details on his face, though, but maybe that's just me.

Tried that but it competed with the chestal design logo thingie. It made him top-heavy with design compared to the rest.

Hey, if ANYONE here wants to take a stab at redesigning any costume I will not be offended. In fact, it would be fun to see. There's only a couple I'm happy with.

Now I see it shouldn't have an accent mark anywhere. But I put it there for our English-speaking friends.

What do I know. I would've sworn I had seen it spelled with one somewhere decades ago.

Just had an 11x17 printed of this and the '68 one and they're fucking GORGEOUS. The clarity and visible detail is perfect, not like this jpeg up there.

And y'all know how hard I am on myself. :D

Oh. You didn't see that in the Build Your Own League thread or whatever I called it? Probably a month ago.
