Thanks, Jeff! I'm very flattered by the attention, guys.

First let me say that I was trained as a graphic artist. I like to say that I'm a starving COMMERCIAL artist which kinda defeats the whole point of selling out. I also like to say I have just enough talent to torment myself but not enough to make any money. This applies to more endeavors than just art. But, oh well...

Anyway, the point is, I was familiar with PhotoShop and its tools but had never worked in layers before and had certainly never colored anything as complicated as a full illustration before. I was motivated to start coloring JB's stuff by three things: love of the characters and JB's art, a need to know how to do this kinda stuff anyway as a graphic artist, and I confess, because some of those attempts in that thread were gawd-awful. This last reason should not be interpreted as my thinking I'm some sort of wiz at this but I think some of you know what I mean.

But while Derek has been educating himself in all the techniques available I've just been foolin' around. Don't know much more now than when I started. But I plan on looking at all Ian's threads and learning more. And ANY feedback will be appreciated. I'm a big boy and I can take it. And I want to improve. And beyond the tech aspects, sometimes I just color stuff wrong, so don't hesitate to point out what should be obvious mistakes.

I'm also not going to have much time anymore to devote to this. I've been having a Near-Life Experience lately. But I'll try to place new stuff in here as frequently as I can. Also keep in mind that most of these were done on low-rez scans.

Thanks to everyone for their interest!

Thought we'd start out with a bang. Had no desire to color this but Aric used flattery on me so I did. And it turned out to be my favorite of all the things I've colored. Always wanted to ask JB what happened to the stars on Wonder Girl's costume...

I think this was the second one I did. Pretty happy with it, especially the debris field and ZatannavsWanda scene. But I think some of the lighting effects could have been less timid, especially since the main light source is lightning. But I'm not changing it now.

The colors really pop on that big brawl.

Thanks, Mr. President. Those who used to read my whinings before know that I was concerned that my colors seemed too bright for today's sensibilities. But I grew up in the Silver Age. And I think a lot of modern coloring is too dark. But I was concerned that mine didn't look professionally done.

But the Pre-Raphaelites are my main artistic influence and it occured to me one day that if you brought one of them forward to this time and made them color comics, you'd get this result. So I quit worrying and decided to just have fun and do what I liked.

Best attitude to have, in my opinion. Go with what feels right to you, with what's fun for you to do, and let fly.

Ok. Confess after looking at one of Ian's posts I went back and tweaked Giant Man's shades a little.

Hardest thing on this was trying to interpret all the background and finding some sort of reference for the architecture.

And just so we don't run all the good ones together... Don't know why this one didn't do a lot for me when I had finished it. Other people seemed to like it, tho. Like to see someone else's take on it.

Not one of my favorite Byrne commissions, as for coloring it there is so much you can do with that background. It's just sky and a white building, I don't think you could do anything more with it

Ah, but the question for YOU in particular, Ian, is, how do they hold up when compared to professional work?

And Howdy back atcha.
