Carly Simon reveals mystery behind her 1972 hit 'You're So Vain'
Carly Simon has revealed her classic 1972 hit 'You're So Vain' is about Hollywood actor Warren Beatty.
Mystery has surrounded who the track was dedicated to for many years, with Beatty, Mick Jagger and her ex-husband James Taylor thought to be among the contenders. You can watch the video for the track below.
She told People magazine: "I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren. Warren thinks the whole thing is about him."
The second verse includes the lyrics: You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive/Well you said that we made such a pretty pair/ And that you would never leave/But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me/I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee.
Simon also said the remaining verses are about two other men but she refused to give any further details.
"Probably, if we were sitting over at dinner and I said 'Remember that time you walked into the party and…'. I don't know if I'll do it. I never thought I would admit that it was more than one person," she added.
The 70-year-old singer, who once dated Beatty, is due to release her forthcoming memoirs Boys In The Trees.
