Figures. It arrived today. It is the 4th edition, but that cover is not on it - just a bunch of generic 45's.

I'm thinking they sent me the UK 4th edition instead of the US 4th edition. The one I got says published in 2007. The new US one is apparently a 2008 edition. Plus there is no sign of the "Top artists choose their favorite 5 albums" section that is advertised in the Amazon listing.

I got this cover too. I mainly ordered it for the pictured cover. I'm going to try and get a refund, but I'm afraid they will ding me for shipping charges on the other items in my order (I ordered this with a couple of CDs and got the free shipping because the order was over $25)

Sort this with an Amazon CSR, they're usually very good about fixing such mistakes:

1-800-201-7575

Please don't just send the book back and risk a deduction of your refund for shipping charges ~ first call and explain to them you specifically wanted the USA 2008 publication and make them look at their own listing with the proper cover photo and description. Since it's their mistake you shouldn't be penalised.

I sent mine back after posting a detailed explanation online. They then sent me (as I feared) another copy of the exact same one. They didn't charge me for shipping, but I'm wondering if the "White Album" cover even exists!

Please do. What their telephone rep told me was that it's likely that I would just receive the same edition a third time. He said he needs to contact the supplier to inform them that they have the book listed incorrectly. He said I should return this one for a full refund, and he will contact me via email (I have my fingers crossed on that one) when the problem is corrected so I can then re-order the correct one.

Hope you do get the right one!

You guys were apparently sent this British edition published by Canongate, which came out a few months ago and is copyrighted 2007:

The American edition is actually published by Grove/Atlantic under the licensed name "Canongate U.S." ~ it has a different ISBN (9781847670205), a copyright date of 2008 and the White Album-esque cover shown in the first post. Supposedly this came out in the States on February 18th, but it looks like Amazon USA initially brought in overstock from Amazon UK instead.

Yes, that's what I thought (as I posted in post #3 above), and I explained that whole situation to the customer service rep. Hopefully they'll track down the correct version.

I just got my copy from Amazon. The ugly cover. I'm just not up for trying to get the cool one. Too much trouble.

I guess you can't judge a book by it's cover.

I recently noticed that Amazon removed the originally posted cover pic and replaced it with the version we all were getting. I guess that white album-like cover never existed.
