The book opens in January 1969, the beginning of The Beatles’ last year as a band. The BEATLES (The White Album) is at number one in the charts and the foursome gather in London for a new project. Over 21 days, first at Twickenham Film Studios and then at their own brand-new Apple Studios, with cameras and tape recorders documenting every day’s work and conversations, the band rehearse a huge number of songs, culminating in their final concert, which famously takes place on the rooftop of their own office building, bringing central London to a halt.

The Beatles: Get Back tells the story of those sessions through transcripts of the band’s candid conversations. Drawing on over 120 hours of sound recordings, leading music writer John Harris edits the richly captivating text to give us a fly-on-the-wall experience of being there in the studios. These sessions come vividly to life through hundreds of unpublished, extraordinary images by two photographers who had special access to their sessions―Ethan A. Russell and Linda Eastman (who married Paul McCartney two months later). Also included are many unseen high-resolution film-frames, selected from the 55 hours of restored footage from which Peter Jackson’s documentary is also drawn.

Legend has it that these sessions were a grim time for a band falling apart. However, as acclaimed novelist Hanif Kureishi writes in his introduction, “In fact this was a productive time for them, when they created some of their best work. And it is here that we have the privilege of witnessing their early drafts, the mistakes, the drift and digressions, the boredom, the excitement, joyous jamming and sudden breakthroughs that led to the work we now know and admire." Half a century after their final performance, this book completes the story of the creative genius, timeless music, and inspiring legacy of The Beatles.

Hey, does anyone know if this book is still coming and, if so, when?
Amazon still shows it being published on September 1, 2020, but the publisher's web site (Callaway Arts & Entertainment) has nothing about it in their upcoming books listings, and an internet search on the ISBN (978-0935112962) turns up nothing either.

The Peter Jackson documentary has been delayed, so the book is likely delayed as well.

I pre-ordered back on January 7, 2020. My order details inform me that estimated delivery date for me is September 3, 2020. Amazon also notes that my original delivery date would have been October 7, 2020. Interesting. I guess we'll see what happens.

I've just heard from an insider that the book is still on for mid-October or thereabouts, that even though the film and box set were postponed until next year, the same could not be done with the book.

My Order Details page says that it will be delivered next Thursday (9/3). We'll see, I guess. There's still no product image on Amazon, so that's a bit unusual. I'm not holding my breath.

No surprise here, but I just received an email from Amazon stating that "We're encountering a delay in shipping your order. We'll make every effort to get the delayed item to you as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience." Until just now the order status had been "delivery expected by 8pm today". It's still interesting to see that the only listings anywhere on this planet for the book are Amazon's various country-specific stores.

Hopefully the delay will be a short one.

The first post has been updated with the new information -- publication date, cover image and description. The book is not currently pre-orderable, but Amazon's listing page is still there. WAN assumes we'll all have to pre-order anew once it becomes available again.

I've also replaced the link in Banzaibid's post to embed the book's promo video directly.

Not that it would be particularly burdensome to have to pre-order this a second time anyway, but interestingly my original pre-order placed back on May 15 is still there. The status is "Not yet shipped. We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date."
The link is to the yet-to-be-released edition scheduled for next August, so I guess I'm still good.

It depends on how long the listing is dormant. Too long and pre-orders are automatically cancelled. So, we watch and wait.

It's back today. The listing is now for full price ($60) rather than the discounted $49.99 offered last year, but I suspect that will change between now and August 31.
