Avengers: The Legacy of Thanos
{Cover Not Yet Revealed}
Written by ROGER STERN & JOHN BYRNE Penciled by JOHN BUSCEMA & JOHN BYRNE Inked by TOM PALMER, KYLE BAKER, & JOE SINNOTT
When Monica Rambeau, the new Captain Marvel, takes a visit to Thanos' abandoned starship, she ends up the unwitting -- and unwilling -- guest of space pirate Nebula ... who plans to conquer the Skrull Galaxy, and who just might be the granddaughter of Thanos himself! If Cap's teammates back on Earth can topple the towering Terminus in the Savage Land, they'll be drawn into Nebula's interstellar conflict ... but this time, the Avengers will fight on the side of the Skrulls! Get ready for a cosmic classic as the flame-haired Firelord and the all-mighty Beyonder enter the fray. And it's a small universe when the Fantastic Four appear -- but can even two teams of heroes prevent the biggest shakeup in Skrull history?

Roger: I've always wondered -- did you have future plans for Nebula, the Skrulls and the Savage Land you would have gotten to had you stayed longer on Avengers?

Oh, yes. Hi, Roger, did some of those Savage Land plans end up in John Byrne's Namor run? As I seem to recall reading years ago that (and correct me if I am wrong) that Luke Cage was going to become part of the Avengers post The Heavy Metal storyline and it would involve Iron Fist.

Greg McPhee wrote: Hi, Roger, did some of those Savage Land plans end up in John Byrne's Namor run? No, John came up with his own Savage Land scenarios. The plans I had were negated by Ka-Zar and Shanna appearances that came between my Avengers story and the Namor book. Quote: As I seem to recall reading years ago that (and correct me if I am wrong) that Luke Cage was going to become part of the Avengers post The Heavy Metal storyline and it would involve Iron Fist. Sort of. I was going to have the Avengers investigate Iron Fist's murder and clear Cage of all charges. Luke would then have become an Avenger. I hadn't decided if I was going to resurrect Fist; things never got that far. I was fired in the Spring of '87, and all my plans went out the window. -- Uncle Rog

It annoyed me that "Heavy Metal" went from The Avengers vs Robots to some weird tangent about Cosmic Cubes.

"Heavy Metal" wasn't my title, and Cosmic Cubes did not figure into the story I had in mind. I disown that whole arc. -- Uncle Rog

Besides Nocenti/Romita's Daredevil and David's Hulk (which never had an artist I really liked while I was still reading it), there wasn't much there for me. But man, that Avengers run was amazing while it lasted.

Now that the cover has been revealed - that's a pretty sweet f'in cover! I don't know the artist (I have heard a lot about him on this board though) but he looks a lot like Byrne in his prime, to me

That's the cover of the Avengers Annual 14. Interesting.
