Superman's 1980s adventures continue in this eighth collection of stories from writer/artist John Byrne and others. This latest volume includes the introduction of the super-hero tracking government agency known as Checkmate, as well as appearances by Wonder Woman, Batman's foe Man-Bat and others.

Collects:
ACTION COMICS #598-600, SUPERMAN #16-18 and ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #439-440.

The aforementioned "others" including George Perez, Jerry Ordway, Dick Giordano, Kurt Schaffenberger, Curt Swan, Mike Mignola, and Yours Truly. This reprints the first story I got to work on with Curt Swan, and the only story I got to work on with Kurt Schaffenberger.

I have an advance copy in my hot little hands, and it looks sweet.

I remember I was sooooo excited for that ACTION 600 with Byrne/Perez -- but I ended up thinking the issue was a bit flat.

Loved the art.

It's sad that in the 1980's a book couldn't be found for an artist as talented as Curt Swan to shine. I guess the closet would have been his fill-ins for the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Can't wait for the next in this series. As much as I liked Byrne's Superman, the character really took off for me after he left. Those issues with Kerry Gammill are some of my favorites. You and Jerry Ordway were really in-sync with the plotting.
