Hiya, Unca

I'm just rereading some of the
Reign of the Supermen stuff, and have a question for you about the Cyborg Superman.
What is the story behind his creation? That is, whose idea was it, and did it predate the
Death of Superman storyline at all?
Thanks

Astronaut Hank Henshaw first appeared in
Adventures of Superman #466, and became fully cybernetic in issue #468 of that series...both written and drawn by Dan Jurgens, with Dick Giordano finishing on inks for the first story and Art Thibert on the second...
...those where the May and July issues of
Adventures from 1990, two years (and change) before the Death of Superman. But Dan always planned to eventually bring Henshaw back.
When we were all at the Superman Summit meeting, planning the four Superman, Dan was talking about having the Superman in his issues be a cyborg. So I said, "Why don't you use Henshaw?" Dan started grinning...
And now you know...the rest...of the story.
