This may sound a little weird, please bear with me.
There's a fan project going for Transformers called Mosaics, onepage stories about the Transformers universe and its characters. Its a fan thing, not endorsed by Hasbro or anything, but IDW prints some of them as backups in Transformers comics, and 'real' Transformers creators have become involved in submitting their own.
I have had the privilege of writing one, and getting one of IDW's actual Transformers artists to draw it. I submitted the script, we had a bit of back-and-forth, I encouraged him to interpret things as he wished, even though it was full-script, I really wanted it to be a collaboration.
Tonight I received the finished art. I was amazed. Absolutely floored. The words I had written now had so much power and punch behind them. It became a complete story, the art more than suited the story, it bettered it. It added to it. It was a perfect vision of what I had wanted, and what we discussed. The artist nailed it. Exceeded anything I could have expected or imagined.
It's eerie looking at it.
Now here's the question bit. I, myself, am not an artist at all, I'm a terrible artist, it's like there's an 'artistic fog' over my brain. I suggested panel shots in the script, which were the basis of what was used, the artist expanded and bettered it.
Is writing like that for you? When writing your script, do you have a visual in your head, do you have the ability to see, in your own mind, the visual side of the books? If not, how do you compensate? How do you get around limitations of being a writer, assuming you have them.
Do you have any stories you could share, where you've been amazed at the end project.
The artist and myself ended up being in perfect synch, it resulted in a true melding of writing and art into one complete project.
How often do you feel you get that with your work?
I apologise if I'm rambling a little, it's a new experience for me!

I think he's been busy with the Incredible Hulk book and, hopefully, some Spider-Man stuff.

No, no, that's fine.

Yes, it still happens. When I was working on the JLA CLASSIFIED story, JB came up with any number of shots that warmed the cockles of my little heart...especially in the scenes of the early JLA. Mike Norton perfectly captured the '60s era Ivy Town that I was looking for in my ATOM story. And wait'll you see more of Zach Howard's work in the GIANT-SIZE INCREDIBLE HULK! That lad is gonna go far.

(Sorry to take so long to answer this. I was finishing a SPIDER-MAN plot.)

Ummm... we're supposed to take that as an apology?

Ok.

Just say when, Roger! Haven't bought a new Spider-Man comic book since, I believe, Kurt Busiek's Untold Tales run. (If Ultimate counts, I bought the first year or so.)

Note that Frank is happy that you made my day. So nice of you to care, Frank. :)

So, can you elaborate any Uncle Rog, or is it too soon?

I was hoping for a regular answer, but to get an answer that ALSO lets us know you're doing a Spider-Man piece........I'm speechless!
