You've done work-for-hire for most or all of your career, and mostly superheroes. Have you thought about doing some creator-owned work, or some non-superhero comics (or both together)?

Yes, to both, Steve. I have ideas for probably close to a dozen different projects, only one or two of which are super-heroes.

The trick is finding a publisher who will pay on delivery.

I hear ya. That crime drama project I was telling you about is making the rounds. From what I've been able to determine, the guys that pay page rates (not backend) include:

DC/Vertigo
DC/Wildstorm
Top Cow
IDW
Boom! Studios
Tokyopop
Dark Horse
Devil's Due

Plus, if you have a literary agent, there's a boom in graphic novel imprints from major and minor publishers. Most or all of these pay an advance on royalties. Here's a list I put together:
