Quote:
--Comcast Bans Bandwidth Hog For One Year
(July 14, 2011)
Comcast has banned a Seattle man from the Internet for a year because
he used too much data. Andre Vrignaud used more than 250 GB of data on
his Comcast Internet connection for two months in a row, violating the
company's use policy, which does not allow those who are banned to
switch to more expensive, uncapped, but lower speed connections. A
Comcast spokesperson said that the 250 GB limit was established after
the company agreed not to selectively slow down peer-to-peer traffic.
The limit is designed to prevent users from degrading their neighbors'
Internet connections.

Bannings: Bannings? We don't need no stinkin' bannings!
I don't tink Comcast owns the Internet, so they can't ban anyone from it.

I would ASSUME they would also have to release a "banned" individual from any contract obligations. if so, this would only cause harm to those in a rural area where Comcrap is the only game in town.

My town has a view of the sky, so Comcast is not the only game available.

Has satellite improved? At one time a few years back I was considering Microsoft's satellite service. The rep at MS after hearing my needs told me not to sign up; at least at that time she said the system was quite slow & unreliable.

Most technology gets better with time. But answering your question would require using Google, and I can do that for you.

HughesNet says they can give me 2.0Mbps download speed. This is a bit slower than what I currently have, so I could live with that if it was the only game in town (and I think there probably ARE places where satellite Internet IS the only game in town). They have a bandwidth allowance of 400MB per day, so the 12 GB per month would not make the bandwidth hog in the article happy, I'm sure. I don't think I use that much in a typical month, however.
