How did the Tyrone Square store look? Did they have a decent CD selection? I'm thinking about going next weekend, but it's probably an hour away from me so I may not (particularly if they are wiped out of product). Thanks.

The CD's were kind of disorganized--I think they were at 30% off. I will admit to looking for a copy of the "South Saturn Delta" Hendrix comp, but all I found were serven or eight of copies of "Valleys Of Neptune." Still, for anybody with the willingness to dig, there were a fair number of discs to comb through--three days ago, that is.

Has anyone hit a Borders this weekend? Judging from last time, we should be getting very close to 70-90% time on cd & dvd.

Got an e-mail that they were up to 50-70%, but no plans to go back.

Yeah, I am not really in the market for anything Borders actually has in stock right now.

I bought a new Bowie bio, a Mahavishnu Orchestra CD and the Standing In The Shadows Of Motown DVD for a grant total of $21.

went friday, CD's and most everything else 50% off.

a ton of kanye west amd jay z CD's

lots of k.d. lang and the siss boom bang caught my eye.

and an overabundance of susan boyle CD's. (that will still be there at 99% off)

kind of tells you why they are going under.

I hot them big time for my business last round at 90% off. Hope to do so again, though all the remaining Borders are a long drive, so i have to time it just right!

I bought the Hendrix "West Coast Seattle Boy" box at 40% off. It had a tag that said "No Further Discounts." The next day, the discount was announced as going to to 50-70%, but I didn't go back to see if the tag had lied to me or not.

Tell ya what though--this is an awesome set. I've played all four discs twice and silll have the DVD sitting here unwatched. This is the first posthumous Hendrix comp (that I've heard anyway) that tries to follow some sort of narrative--unless you're sitting there with the CD booklet open in front of you, comps like "Blues" and "Valleys Of Neptune" don't really establish much in the way of context with their chronologically scattershot approaches.

Someday I'm going to have a Hendrix bonus DVD marathon--I must have ten of these things and have watched maybe two of them.

Brain, check out the first EH box, it's also chronological & while I like WCSB, the first box is more essential.

I just looked over the track listing for that first box--I didn't realize that, like WCSB, it also seems to consist almost entirely of alternate takes. (Or does it?)

Geff, you once gave me a link to a Hendrix discography page that seemed fairly definitive and organized, in terms of indexing all of the various posthumous comps and live stuff that has come out over the years. If that site is still up and running, I really need to bookmark it, as I can't seem to Google it for the life of me.

I don't think the link was from me. If it was, i have no memory of it.

Much of the first box (not all) is alternates.

I went to the two Atlanta stores on Saturday and spent about $200 on stuff that was mostly discounted 50%, but some of which was 70%. I expected to only buy a a couple of books, but was then surprised to see how well stocked they still were, especially the East Cobb store. Got the 2-disc expanded editions of McCartney, McCartney II and Petty's "Damn The Torpedoes," along with the new k.d. lang, the first Owl City, several other CDs I can't remember offhand (they're at home, and I'm in my office), half a dozen baseball-related books, a couple of novels and all the 2012 calendars I will need. Did not buy any Blu-Rays or DVDs. Will probably go back one more time after Labor Day and have a look to see what's left and at what price.

The latest Borders e-mail said they're in the last two weeks.

Sound 'Taps' here.

Probably 70% right after labor day, than 90% the last 3-5 days.

I'm actually kind of glad I don't live near a Borders now. While I wouldn't mind getting in on some good bargains, at the same time I think it would be a downer seeing another part of my history coming to an end.

While part of me likes getting the bargains, the other part of me hates the fact that the stores will be shutting down forever.

:agree:

I tend to descend on this sort of thing like a vulture for my business; I've been through way too many of these. Remember Future Shop? I THINK they were the first.
