One of mine is something I was thinking of today.

Lead character has an audio tape recorded just before and leading up to his father's suicide that he is given years after the event. The audio begins "By the end of this recording I will be dead" and was specifically recorded to be given to his son. Thru the story the character states his intention to never listen to the full playback of the tape. He feels as long as there are words yet unheard his father is still a tiny bit alive. He knows that his father gives a long speech but not how long. At the beginning of the story he listens to a small part and throughout the story listens to fractions more - always debating whether he should or not, but with the words spoken carrying a great deal of meaning to him. Of course the excerpts play into the plot of the story, and his character's development.

I think the idea that we get this narrator to the plot, with the added tension of never knowing when the tape runs out, would be interesting.
