Since I finally hopped in the fast lane and got dsl I have been streaming a lot of radio stations. But I have run into a problem. My old speakers to not work when I plug them into any of the audio jacks. The speakers that come out of the monitor work fine but are tinny and have no bass at all.

I think there is not enough power coming from the computer to drive my slightly larger old speakers.

Does anyone have any suggestions for speakers that are not too expensive but that will work and sound better than my monitor speakers?

Thanks.

Rick,

I had the exact same problem that you did. Getting Logitech speakers fixed everything. Normal volume at all times, and very "crankable" when you want to listen LOUD:

Now, I got the whole 5.1 setup for myself because I listen to music at the computer a lot (too much actually!), but even the small 2.1 setup should solve your problem just fine. Internet radio stations sound good! (Even MySpace sounds pretty good when you have a decent set of speakers, believe it or not.)

Thanks Linda.

Second recommendation for Logitec. I smell a trend. I'm still open to suggestions though.

I believe that they're no longer made, but I'm using a pair (trio??) of Advent AV903PL 2.1 pc speakers I got from Amazon a few years back on clearance for about $50 that are wonderful if you can find a used set.

I've also read good things about the Logitechs, but have never heard them.

I'm using the Logitech X-530 5.1 system. Gets a big YEATH! from me for both music and moobies.

Dan,
What kind of moobies? Does it rhyme with anything my warped mind is thinking of at the moment?

Linda's right - going at least 2.1 (stereo plus sub) should make for a definite improvement.

Thanks everyone, including some pm'ers, I think I am going to make a choice from the Logitec options.

I think I'm going to start out with the 2.1 set-up and see how it goes (of course using the IMWAN-friendly link to place my order). 8-)

I'll let you know how it works.

As one of my students might say, OMG!

I just plugged my new Logitec 2.1's in andOMG!

These might actually be better sounding than the speakers I have in the living room (I'm a notoriously lo-fi guy).

These were a great recommendation.

Thanks everyone for your advice. If you want me, I'll be listening to everything on line all the time. :yay:
