For years, I've wondered why there has never been a dedicated DVD anthology gathering vintage Janis Joplin performances (or a DVD reissue of the 1974 "Janis" documentary). A new Joplin documentary (reportedly collecting much of the same footage in "Janis", but incorporating interviews and narration) is set to premiere theatrically this month:
Janis Joplin is one of the most revered and iconic rock & roll singers of all time, a tragic and misunderstood figure who thrilled millions of listeners and blazed new creative trails before her death in 1970 at age 27. With “Janis: Little Girl Blue,” Oscar-nominated director Amy Berg (“Deliver Us from Evil,” “West of Memphis”) examines Joplin’s story in depth for the first time on film, presenting an intimate and insightful portrait of a complicated, driven, often beleaguered artist. Joplin’s own words tell much of the film’s story through a series of letters she wrote to her parents over the years, many of them made public here for the first time (and read by Southern-born indie rock star/actor Chan Marshall, also known as Cat Power). Joplin was a powerhouse when she sang, and her recordings have never left the radio or the hearts of rock fans worldwide. Berg’s “Janis: Little Girl Blue” offers new understanding of a bright, complex woman whose surprising rise and sudden demise changed music forever.

I'm wondering 2 things:
1. Will the blu be at least 96/24?
2. Since there is only 1 unreleased performance on this, assuming it's hi-res, are these going to be complete performances, or interrupted every 30 seconds by some idiot "Talking Head" being interviewed?

I just saw a Hi Def (blu-ray bit rate) European TV broadcast of this.
As a documentary, it's superb.
I have no idea how interesting the "extras" are going to be on the blu-ray; but based on what I saw, save a few dollars & buy the dvd. It's extremely well done, there are no complete performances, & even at 20-30 mbs, most of the video quality is poor-mediocre, even pixilated in places.

Okay, now check this out -- while the DVD-R and BD-R listed in the first post are still scheduled for Wednesday, there's a new Amazon listing for what appears to be a proper factory-pressed DVD of Little Girl Blue scheduled for Friday:

I'd really like to get the 192/24 of the first Big brother album; it's $25 without the bonus trax that are on the cd; I'm going to hold off for awhile!
